"Delta Air Lines will take an estimated $120 million operating loss and will likely become 'more humble' after last week's computer outage, says Cowen & Co. analyst Helane Becker"

The fiasco last week cost Delta $120 million, which means it will cost us (the employees) $24 million of our profit sharing (20% tier).

Will anyone get the axe over this? I doubt it. All those executives at the top just pat each others backs. I mean...did anyone get canned for losing billions in fuel hedges? I guess if retirement and over $80 million from Delta stock sales in a 180 day period is getting canned then yes. Right Richard?

Any employee that would have made a mistake which amounted in a loss of 0.1% of what last week's fiasco cost Delta would have been shown the door. But hey...all is well at the fambly!

The CIO looked pretty relaxed on the DeltaNet as he thanked all of us for saving his bacon (as best we could). He should be unemployed after that fiasco. With big pay comes big responsibility (or should) and his department failed miserably. Maybe now we will see the top execs putting some real $$ into our IT platforms rather than stock repurchases and dividends.....ehhhh.....probably not but we can always hope.

It appears our next black swan event...and the next and the next will be our own blundering management.

"More humble", now that's rich. Ed and the boys will toast Dom instead of the good stuff when the Board awards more stock options to them. This management team is toxic.

This management team is no different that RA's.....he just had a different slow southern drawl that implied a more trustworthy guy.

Delta IT explained that the server they use for the SFO area has a known issue where it causes users who log into DeltaNet in that area to lose authorization. It was fun trying to login to change flights late on Friday night and was told "Please contact your manager to reset your password." Unfortunately, my "manager" does not work on the weekends, so no travel benefits for me. The IT person who eventually fixed it told me just try not to use the website why I'm in SFO

I've seen this myself. I had luck turning off WiFi and using my 4G VZW cell for data. Maybe it routed it through a different server or something.

Had we not lost what we did on the fuel hedges the past 4-5 years and had we invested on decent technology just think of how much more money Delta would have on hand. They could actually offer a great health insurance plan for free for all employees and their families for several years. Instead we're left with these high deductible, high premium plans that are the worst in the industry.

Backup systems are expensive. Especially when we're lighting 7 Billion + on fire as quickly as possible for absolute zero long term ROI. Meanwhile some gates still have inadequate air, some air hoses are full of holes, we're putting 30 year old beaters with no entertainment (or AC half the time) on identical routes in crucial markets where our competition offers a new and vastly superior product and the most critical labor group is being threatened to shut up and take any deal even a concessions laden one, otherwise the company will hide behind the NMB, pay us less than an ultra bottom feeding airline's rates and steal 3% a year from us with no COLAs or retro.
