Quote: Next contract--Gateway issue. Sick leave. All sick must be verified by a Dr's note. Physician's assistant notes will be accepted on a case by case basis, after meeting an SRB. Why are we bickering with each other?
Why are you making stuff up to stir the pot and perpetuate said bickering? That is a purely hypothetical "what if?" We could do that all over the contract in countless ways. I am sure that our negotiators and strategic planning committee consider these sort of questions all the time, but it seems like a bit of overkill for a line pilot to do so.

Herkflyer, I am not on the same page as you. I respect your opinion, you are probably very similar to me in background, morals, beliefs, etc. I don't get why you think it is acceptable to make our contract worse in anyway while the company makes billions. When they lose money in the next black swan event, will vacation get an extra 15 minutes of credit and pay? It won't. Why have you given up?

Because the contract 2012 company desired sick policy is no longer good enough for them. They want more changes. My entire "rant" began when I was reading the NN on the definition of a major bone. Is this for real? Unplanned Hospital admission. The wording of the TA--ridiculous. Crystal clear what they are try to do to an aging pilot group. They don't want to pay for a bank system. They want the best sick leave policy, as long as you don't use it. Truth. And OBTW, why the h@#$ isn't my union saying this?

OK, you have convinced me with your unshakable logic...

I am voting NO because of what YOU say MIGHT happen in 3 yrs.

Or not.

.
It looks like you have been around the block a few times, judging by your avatar 767A. You are good with this TA, based on your experience?

She can also choose to go to any other family she wants. She also doesn't have to "start over" in terms of real compensation to do so. You COULD have asked her for more hours, or maybe to drive themselves home as opposed to you picking them up and driving them.

If you were the only family that had work for her that didn't entail her taking a 50pct or greater pay cut, you could ask her for some relief, like an extra 15 mins in Saturday night. If you offered her 30 pct more, she might take it!

Ronnie,

If your logic is that we should vote this TA down because of what you THINK might be in the next TA, I think we should vote for this TA, because the next one will certainly pay $5000 per hour for the FO seat for the 100 space shuttles we are taking delivery of.

Or wait. Maybe we should just vote on this TA based on what's in it and judge the next TA for what's in that one.

Just a suggestion.

But I didn't. Wouldn't. Because it was reasonable and and affordable and I appreciate her work. If I did ask her for concessions maybe her back pack would have come off. I'm sure I could go on care.com and find the lowest bidder but is that worth it? These are my children after all. Are there parallels to be drawn?

Why not? Bring 'em on, and maybe you will change some minds.

40-50? Seriously?

Are you one of the latest graduates of the Spaghetti Flinging Courses?

Quote: Thanks for the civil discussion. That would not be reasonable. Actually I could not afford that. I'm paying her slightly above industry average. I'd vote yes to a TA that paid us industry average, with no changes to our contract.
Reasonable? She is in charge of YOUR children. Whayt does reasonable have to do with it? Or so goes the logic.

Quote: I pay my part time nanny more than the going rate, and I have given unsolicited raises too. I pay what her services are worth to my family and not what we could get away with. In return, I get above-average effort, timeliness, schedule flexibility, etc...basically, she keeps her backpack on. We have numerous friends who pay average, and have had to deal with nanny turnover like we've never witnessed. You get what you pay for.
Agree with you that, in most cases, you get what you pay for. Of course, unlike your nanny, we are a "captive" labor force to a large extent. Your nanny could leave your employ to go work for a neighbor who has offered her more pay, fewer obligations and perhaps one less kid to watch. If she did leave to work for another employer, pretty sure she would not be required to go back to the bottom of the "nanny list" and start over.
