Clarion is the go to at DTW. Around $50 out the door, shuttle, right by airport. Its....ok.
|
Ok, with that being said... if you get assigned a 4 day block of reserve (purely example), do you book the hotel for the whole time or do you book it one night at a time since you don't know if you're going to get called?
Sorry if these are weird questions but like another poster said a few posts back, I like to know, slightly, what I'm in for! |

Would you mind sharing the knowledge ? Starting class on 9/18 and most likely expecting DTW after that. Always nice to get help from people who went thru the exact same path recently... appreciate it |

I'm actually curious about that as well.

At the HoJo at least, you can usually get a late checkout (5pm), and if they don't use you by then, book another night. That is what I used to do anyway.
Put yourself on call first and cross your fingers for a multi day trip. It is kind of a crapshoot, as a lot of reserve trips end up being some kind of local (fly out empty as a rescue plane, ferry back to base etc). I liked the Quality Inn, Wyndham Garden, and as a last resort the HoJo. I heard they renovated the rooms, so maybe it is better now. All are under $50 out the door. Hope this helps. |
Hojo ain't bad. 37$ for crew rate. You can book multiple days and if you cancel early they won't charge you. Breakfast, netz, shuttle, gently used hypodermic needles, etc.
Beats the living swaz out of SFO hotels. |
I had a few other questions regarding DTW base other than what was posted.
- It seems like DTW is pretty junior at Skywest. Could you expect DTW out of training? Would you have to sit on reserve at all? - Would DTW flying be mostly CRJ200 flying or does it vary? Does it even matter whether your trips mainly consist of 200, 700, or 900 flying, minus the few dollars per hour between the different aircraft? - Is the Skywest DTW flying enjoyable for the most part for regional type flying or could you expect better trips with a different base? |
