"We are looking forward to seeing you join our pilot ranks soon. As we have moved into the New Year, I want to give you an update regarding your February class date for initial training.

Our teams are working to finalize class dates for 2023 to ensure they each align with our operational needs. As we evaluate our overall 2023 pilot training schedules, we are adjusting some new hire class dates to facilitate Captain upgrades and align with our training requirements and operational needs. As a result, we expect to assign you a new class date in the coming months. This change would also impact your CTP course, if applicable.

Thank you for your patience. We are working as quickly as possible to facilitate updated class schedules that will provide you a seamless transition from new hire to ground training.

Please continue to keep me updated if there are any changes to your preferred aircraft or availability."

Rumor mill from SkyWest, we are going into a recession (unknown size) come March ‘23. Republic is aware of the same and has expected to hold FO hire until 3rd quarter 2023 to prioritize captain upgrades and operational needs…etc.

Republic, and all the AA WO’s, apparently have staffing issues with their CA to FO ratio. How many captains to First officers does OO have at this moment? I thought all the captain upgrade’s already went through?

Anyone else in 1/27 CTP 2/6 CRJ class hear anything about canceling class date? I didn’t get an email saying they’re canceling our class but now I’m a little hesitant to give my current work notice that I’m quitting.

A recession in 2023 is hardly a rumor. It's more probably more accurate to describe it as a widely held expectation (link).

What remains to be seen is how long, how deep, and what the eventual recovery looks like. Historically, regional airlines have tended to do better in recessions but whether this holds true again in 2023 is anyone's guess.

Ask your employer if you can rescind your resignation and stay a few more months, or see if you can get a class date with Air Wisconsin, Commutair, or GoJet sooner. Some pilots have been able to skip the regionals and go directly to the LCCs.

Management view pilots as numbers and look at the big picture to balance their staffing needs. The mandatory upgrade policy proves SkyWest has been struggling to maintain enough captains, and it’s possible that speeded up the exit of some pilots or they weren’t able to get them through training fast enough. Also consider that management would rather slow down hiring before a recession than lay them off after it starts. Just remember it isn’t personal.

I'm scheduled for these also. Haven't heard anything.

If people with classes after you got notice but you didn’t then you might be fine. You are going to be on reserve for a longer time than the people who came before you. If no word from OO by Friday put your notice in if you want to be eligible for rehire with your current company. If you don’t care about being rehired then quit any time BEFORE CTP starts. The environment is rapidly changing.
