Alarm bells on that...
Sounds like something came up on a background check. Not specifically the formal TSA/SIDA check but possibly something related to a reference check or social media? I'd carefully consider who you're using for references. Might even go so far as to have a friend call your references and pretend to be someone considering you for employment, just to see what they say. You also don't necessarily have to use a specific person as a reference... if you're not sure about the CP, maybe use a different supervisor or HR person if possible. Hopefully you haven't burned any bridges in aviation, it's a small world. Even if your employer is garbage, make nice with them even as you're out the door. And check in occasionally just to say hi for as long as they're a significant employment reference... that could be until you're at your desired major, or ten years. Look at your PRD, and do a FOIA request on ALL of your FAA and NDR records. Check your social media... anything hateful, extreme, or edgy could be a problem. Or fringe politics which includes about 30% on either side these days. Also hopefully you don't have a history of public commentary about past employers, unless it's very positive. |

I don't really know. I know all of my references would have been positive and reliable.
The social media thing could be a thing as I do have some pictures that could be considered PG but that was a while ago and I doubt the captain went straight to my social media after the interview. Besides, I don't think a few shirtless pictures from a few years back would prevent me from getting hired. I hardly even use social media now anyways. I'll look into anything bizarre that might be on my record but I doubt it since I already have three other class dates. It's not a big deal but I'd been monitoring this thread so figured I'd share my experience. Anyways, good luck to everyone else and hopefully see you at the majors! Thanks for the input. Did you call/text/email each reference and ask? Some people take it personal when you use them as a reference but don’t ask for their permission. It also sounds like you have some Facebook pictures that need to be removed. It’s not difficult to remove pictures from your social media accounts. It’s as simple as untagging yourself from the photo. I’ve heard of an airline that starts with a D actually print off self incriminating photos from your social media accounts and show them to you during the interview process wanting an explanation. |

Shirtless pics are probably OK, but it's more about the context. Who are the other people associated with your SM? If it's a lot of edgy or sketchy looking people, OO is a pretty conservative company. Delta revoked a CJO a few years ago because they found a pic of a kid on SM with a group of his friends... it wasn't his pic and he didn't post it, but it showed up on his feed. He was standing in front of the group, and somebody was holding up a bong in the back. The guy didn't know about the bong, didn't take the pic, or post the pic. Still lost his CJO.

Also when you ask permission you can get a sense for how they feel about doing it... if they're not enthusiastic, don't use them. Sounds like the OP's refs are good though. |
trip was probably accurate though that this is the surface of what a selective job market looks like. It’s how crappy regional vs crappy regional hate was so rampant up until a few years ago, if somebody actually said yes to you then you were all in on team crappy regional.

FWIW... I interviewed last week. I have no checkrides failures, a clean record, a bachelor's degree, am a minority (not that that should be a factor but it often is), and was told by the captain that I should feel great about my interview and he's confident I'd do well in training. Two days later, I got an email saying I wasn't selected.
This is an example of what social media posting can tell about a person as well. You've got less than two dozen posts here and I'd be able to easily figure out who you are if I were on the interview team. Not that you have posted anything bad, but plenty of other posters have. I remember years ago when a specific poster here had a job offer rescinded from something they had posted on this website. SkyWest management definitely follows what's going on here, and on the FB pages. Third thing, I think the regional job market is tightening up. We need captains, not FOs. The number of new hires being put through training is decreasing. |

Has SkyWest stopped taking overseas pilots given things are tightening up a bit? I know they were taking a lot of them at one time
