It doesn't matter how long you've been a captain, but how long you've been at the company. Until you're here for 2 yrs total, expect reserve (as a CRJ captain obviously). This may or may not change in the furure, but either way not a bad deal at all, given the historical upgrade/reserve times over the last decade.

TimetoClimb… also good data and insight to consider, thanks. As a previous 121 Captain, I understand "paying your dues" in this industry. Company seniority is EVERYTHING!

Reserve duty is just so much easier/tolerable when you don't have to add commuting, and the associated expenses, on top of it. But, 2 years to a hard line isn't so bad.

Therefore, given your 10-15% comment, I'm compelled to ask if anyone knows the following:

How many Captains and F/O's are based in DTW?
How many Captains and F/O's are based in ATL?

How many CRJ Capt. and F/O lines in DTW?
How many CRJ Capt. and F/O lines in ATL?

Is it still taking 3-5 months to get a class date if hired tomorrow?

Thanks in advance... AU

If hired tomorrow you should expect a February class probably. (CRJ)

Ouch, 6 months to start class at a regional carrier? Apparently, there's no pilot shortage at SkyWest! Oh well, at least I'll be able to watch football, and enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas at home this year.
Thanks for the quick reply CRJJ... AU.

DTW 200/ 160 lines
ATL 105/ 70 lines

A certain percentage aren't bidding for one reason or another. They keep reserves between 10-20 percent but reserves are always flying. You can proffer for open time trips and try to break guarantee. Reserve rules aren't stellar here. There is a lot of work to be done and it is fairly nonstop on the crj side. Classes are full but you may get and earlier date randomly if someone bails.

That is true.

I interviewed the last week of May, got a November 20ish class but got in the waitlist and end up in an August class. Still here suffering :D

Same here. I was hired in early May 2019. Still patiently waiting. Was told by HR that ERJ scheduling doesn't give confirmed future class dates (they use a running list based on date of hire and availability). When the ERJ prospects looked like it was going to take months, I asked for the CRJ availability... They confirmed me for a CRJ class in March 2020 and listed me as first available on both waiting lists. They said earliest would likely be late Oct if the stars aligned. Rumor floating around is that simulator availability is the limiting factor.

Happy to have a job...just waiting to go to work.

Go to Operstions> Standing Bids List> Awards. Sort by CA to see only captain awards. You can also sort by aircraft type and domicile. Like previously mentioned most low seniority upgrades came with upgrade requirements pretty well met. If you have questions about your upgrade eligibility contact Virgina Dorosky she does all the transfers and upgrades and is very helpful.

Guessing here, but maybe 1 year on reserve as Capt. until one can hold a scheduled hard line, which hopefully would provide the opportunity of 1 or 2 more days off each month?

Also, any chance this growth could also lower the time to upgrade in other bases such as Atlanta? Roughly the same time frame I would presume, give or take a month or so?

Thanks, AU

its worth noting reserves can actually get 1 more day off here than lineholders (18 vs 19 days of work max) if you are a jr CA lineholder in ATL/DTW/MSP expect to work 19 days a month. you might get lucky and get 18 but that is about it. ill add 1 caveat if you are a targeted lineholder( most jr of lineholders, may or may not get a composite line) you may get more time off because PBS is running out of trips to award. but this usually affects about 3-5 people and once you are sr. to that expect the above.

Being in OO’s pilot pathway program has no effect on your seniority within your class for bidding/initial assignments, correct?

Seniority in class is determined
1. Cadets over non cadets
2. Within cadets, 4th digit from the end of your social, 1 over 2 and 9 or 0 last.
3. non cadets on the social again.

You will bid for sim slots and you will retain seniority over your class mates in the future.

im pretty sure its:
1)cadets by date of cadet start
2)then everyone else by last 4 of SSN low to high
