DTW Questions

I’m trying to decide between flying for SkyWest and Republic. Identical class dates and I feel blessed with the two offers. I would be moving back east either way to live at base. What are the routes like out of DFW, trip length as well as difficulty getting 90 hrs a month? How long are the legs? On a typical day how long do you spend in the cockpit compared to walking/waiting at the airport?

Define move back east?? At a 20+ year OO guy i would say Republic, unless back east means DTW/MSP/ORD/DFW...

Republic will probably be your best bet in almost any case. Google "skywest route maps" and you can see the flying we do out of different bases. Your title mentioned DTW but post mentions DFW so I'm not sure which the typo is or if you want to know about both. DTW is THE MOST Jr base on both the CA and FO side. It will get you a line the quickest and you'll have absolutely no trouble flying a minimum of 90hrs a month as rjags what the company will force you to fly anyway in the most consistently understaffed base. That said the flying is a mix. Still plenty of crap - 200 flying with short legs and 6 flights a day for barely 20hr 4 days. But they also have some pretty sweet 900 flying 2/3 legs a day with much longer legs and pretty good credit trips.

DFW is pretty attainable on the FO side tho reserve and seniority progression will take longer especially on the CA side as it's alittle more senior. 95% - 700 flying but alot of short legs and low paying 4 days and such too. Some good stuff but it takes alot of seniority to get it.

Lostbaggage, what's the best OO base in your opinion, CRJ. Best meaning short reserve and good trips/credit.

Well, yeah everyone has their own definition of best but given yours of a relatively Jr base but with good trips and credit I'd say MSP. That's where the vasy majority of the 900s are based and MSP seems to have some pretty good flying with that fleet type. Longer legs and higher credit. It's also relatively Jr in both seats.

I see. Well from all the bases people have recommended, MSP wasn't one of them, but I know is junior on both sides so I guess that gives some points. DFW with the new planes and being junior as it is may work too.

DFW or DTW? Your post says one thing and your title says another.

The planes in dfw may be "new" to skywest but they're definitely far from "new." They're inherited from Expressjet and they are pure garbage.

DTW. The other was a typo.

I meant "new". And garbage or not, it is what it is, can't change the fleet.
