Captain Pay as FO

I have my class date soon. Just wanted to know if at SkyWest you can get captain pay as an FO after completing 750/850 hours?

If you put in an upgrade bid that includes a base assignment of "any" after your preferred base assignments - then you are eligible for the Captain rate override, or CRO. You'll be paid the difference of the CA rate minus your FO rate after you complete your upgrade LOE. You are eligible during the first monthly award cycle following your aquiring 750hrs.

So, it's back-pay? Interesting.

You have got to be a company plant. "Happy just to be here guy". Oh the amount of money your types have cost pilot groups. "Golly gee....I'm so happy I just get to fly a jet!" Do me a favor and look up some real industry contracts. No wonder your management gets over on the pilot group with BS contracts etc.

Huh? I don't have a horse in this race. Just noting it was interesting while asking for clarification. That's it.

Yes - It is back pay. And if you do something that causes a rescheduling of your upgrade training (ie - don't get your hrs by the start of your class or calling out of SIM sessions), you'll lose it all.

Now that part is cheap…. I get that people abuse the system. But come on…

Yes you are “eligible” for captain pay at 750 hours and with an awarded upgrade bid. However basically no one gets awarded till they are over 900 hours so SkyWest only has to back pay a few hours….

This is wholly untrue. They are awarding upgrades at the end of the month that you hit 750 hrs, provided you have an upgrade bid in. A base preference of "any" somewhere in your list of bases gets you into the CRO program.
If you don't have an upgrade bid in, they'll "award" you one at the end of the month that you hit 900-950ish hrs. But in that case, you aint getting the CRO anyway...
The only exception to this I can think of would be an FO in the DMA program who gets bypassed for upgrade.

That’s what it says online but I don’t know a single FO that has been awarded around 750 hours. All the people I know that have gotten their upgrades this month are 915-940. They had bids in with “any”. Lowest I’ve heard of was someone at 850.

not true. Check the standing bid list and talk to some of the FOs. I was awarded an upgrade class at about 780 hours. As long as you have any in your bid and are at or above 750 when the bid closes you should get your award.

I and a few other FOs were sub 800. I received my email at the end of April. I upgrade in august

Interesting good to know. Is part of the requirements that you must reach 1000 hours by your class date to get the CRO? Otherwise you could milk it on reserve.

Yes, they assign the class date based on an assumption of 70 hours of block per month. If you don't make an effort to meet that, you lose the CRO.

For example, if the company keeps displacing an FO off trips and as a result they won't meet their hours but that FO has reached out to the training department and is picking up trips, they haven't been denying the CRO from what I've been told. Bid reserve to milk it? You'll lose the CRO. Seems to boil down to if the person was acting with integrity if they miss their class date.
