Skywest (sapa) forum shut down!

So i guess we are down to this.....

Our dirty laundry for all to see here?!?!?

Sapa apparently decided that the heat in the kitchen was the wrong temp for their agenda during this critical pay vote, so they north korea'd us.

Nice guys!

Can we really trust the results of the vote? I mean you hold all the keys, and you just proved it.

GravyRobber 07-31-2015 08:39 PM

Right on Jason!

Hopefully this hurts SAPA more than it helps, and begins to pave a path to real representation.

Is offline 07-31-2015 08:39 PM

I can't believe they done that for the reason they are giving. They should shut the site down it was the only reason anyone got on. Everything else was the company wants this or needs that.

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 08:46 PM

What i fear is that we have had no voice in salt lake at the training center and all those new hires have been only hearing one side, and now GET TO VOTE!!!!

If we showed up in slc to plead our case to those kids, we would be terminated.

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 08:50 PM

The timing says it all

GravyRobber 07-31-2015 08:51 PM

Nothing to see here. Move along...

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 08:58 PM

Btw, thanks sapa also you suck because Mitch died tonight and now he have no place to even meet up and console each other.

Nice timing sapa, u suck!

Speaking of mitch, im heartbroken, he was truly mr skywest as his son mitch jr put it tonight.

He was someone everyone listened to when he spoke, he was a guy everyone wanted to be near, he was magnetic, loved by all. I was with him and scotty when the buildings fell on 9-11, just the three of us in a hotel room in fresno, they were some of the two greatest guys you could ask for to be around during a time like that.

Goodbye mitch, i wish i could have heard just one more of your crazy rumors.

Jason

I'm in the same boat as you. The biggest thing is that we make the new forum widely known to all pilots.

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 09:03 PM

We can surely have the thumbs up feature back.

So we just need to set it up and then everyone tell 10 pilot friends. Ya know like that Amway $hit

GravyRobber 07-31-2015 09:05 PM

Hey now, be careful with those cleverly disguised profanity words. We don't want APC to get shut down.

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 09:06 PM

Sapa gang needs some ointment

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 09:17 PM

How do the north korea type actions from sapa not prove to the general membership that sapa is a management trojan horse and that the horse needs to be put down and real respresentation needs to be brought in.

Does this forum shut down not convince even the most die hard pro company pro sapa guys that it is all a lie?

Is there a justification given anywhere on the site for shutting the forum down?

Disregard, just read the explanation, BS!

Inthegoo 07-31-2015 09:31 PM

Ya know if sapa really is for the pilots and not just a management shill, then they really need some outside consultants, cause everything they do, they do like $hit

No but it appears to be a possible Costa Concordia move, abandon ship, we are sinking.......oh wait, didnt the captain get off first on that one?........oooh, wait.....if they abandon ship, we have no representation......well we never really did!

Goodbye sapa! I hope you are trying to tell us goodbye with this move.

Who administers the vote?

Would they really fire you for this? Couldn't you do it at the hotel? At xjt, the ALPA membership committee is given half a day during indoc to counsel the new hires.

mountainmojo 07-31-2015 10:19 PM

SAPA Sucks.

rcfd13 07-31-2015 10:59 PM

I personally also thought the forums were getting a bit out of hand. At the same time I think we need a place where the pilot group can discuss things like the pay package. Silencing the forums right before the sends a pretty nasty message.

Also unrelated to the pay vote, most of what I know about PBS I learned from reading through threads on the SAPA forums where people posted questions, posted their bids for critique, and posted about mistakes they made with their bid. With a system controlling our lives that is as complicated and mis-understood as PBS we really need some place where pilots can ask questions to the masses.

Gents - (and ladies)

Re forums: That guy went way out of line. It is ok to disagree with someone, it is not ok to post pictures of ones house. What's next, posting pictures of his kids going to school ? Not cool. Says more about your persona.

I understand what he was trying to do, that is not how you do it. Not ok.

That said he should have been banned. Forum should remain open.

ALPA shut down our forum at Delta. The lifers in the DALPA office hated free thought and free speech.

We started our own forum and it has been an overwhelming success.

We rejected a joke of a contract and are now recalling the Yes voting reps.

I think they would all agree shutting down our forum was the biggest mistake they have ever made.

Social media was also extremely effective in rejecting the substandard agreement and recalling those who do not represent our best interests.

Good luck attaining what you so richly deserve.

E6-B 08-01-2015 04:25 AM

I agree with the general sentiment of this thread.

SAPA has become increasingly irrelevant under JP's rule. While I agree that posting pictures of someones house is going way too far, shutting down the forums entirely was way over the line.

Removing our primary tool for communication SAPA has essentially shown that they don't really want to represent the pilots at all. The behavior on the forums I feel was a direct result of the general apathy displayed by SAPA with regard to important issues (like the absurdity of allowing new hires to vote on the pay package.)

I think ALPA carriers don't allow new hires to vote, unless they've been on property a yr, correct? SAPA is a joke, real representation is needed. ALPA isn't the best but it's far better than the current dictatorship.

Don't count on ALPA to be any more representative or legitimate. They are nothing but a political machine looking to stay on flight pay loss for themselves.

E6-B 08-01-2015 04:38 AM

Correct.

You can't vote at an ALPA carrier until you've been on property for a year and are off probation.

Someone who's still being evaluated and has no experience with the company shouldn't be voting.

Squallrider 08-01-2015 06:26 AM

It probably only happened with change of leadership, slow the conspiracy roll lol. I think JP is on his way to greener pastures. What was the house pic thing about? I didn't see the forums before all this

skypilot35 08-01-2015 06:43 AM

A couple thoughts:
1) Facebook for Skywest pilots. I'm sure there is a group already.
2) Twitter: May sound ridiculous but it is a mass communication media.
3) There is a ton of open time for August. How about we just work our scheduled time?

Ladies and Gentlemen, make no mistake about it, this is a tactic designed to silence the vocal dissenters. By removing the forum they have effectively removed our abilities to communicate "in-house" as a pilot group; to discuss opinions openly and candidly, albeit sometimes immaturely. This is indicative of a scared leadership group.

If it were an issue with one individual, the individual should be banned, not the entire forum.

FlyinRabbit88 08-01-2015 06:54 AM

Just like anything a few ruined it for everyone. Russ's explanation posted on sapa pretty much explains it all. It is pretty low and not what we as a group are about to intimidate a fellow pilot like someone did not once but TWICE. Does the timing of it sucks yea, but come on what did we all expect when someone takes it too far and sapa/Skywest could get sued for allowing the intimidation to keep occurring even after some people got banned the first time.
I'm all for donating some money to create a "pipe" like forums where volunteers are willing to be monitors and pilots can vent to the day to day ops.

Utah 08-01-2015 07:04 AM

SAPA has been wanting to get rid of the forum for a while. They got rid of the old one in exchange for the worse one in existence - straight out of 1998 - all in an effort to limit communication among the pilot group.

It's no wonder that the turnout for elections runs as low as 10%.

PerpetualFlyer 08-01-2015 07:57 AM

A SkyWest subreddit has been made on reddit.com. Spread the word. Reddit.com/r/SkyWestAirlines.

I've always said, ALPA is only as good as their MEC. Go with an in-house union if the letters alpa scare you. In the end, leadership is comprised of pilots on your seniority list only. That's true regardless of the letters in the name of the union.

It's not unlike the US constitution. We don't let 17 year old people vote either. There is a good reason for these rules.

APrim 08-01-2015 08:23 AM

Since Skywest pilots work basically not for profit. Can't we qualify for a free .ORG site?

Flyer2000 08-01-2015 09:39 AM

Time to get an ALPA drive. This is the time. Spread the word. We need volunteers.

It was about a rich guy who does this for fun telling every one we should just take a lowball offer because no matter how insignificant it was, it was enough.

Hmm, this is a pretty good idea. I just made a forum for my airline, but a subreddit is damn easy to get going.

Flip69 08-01-2015 01:40 PM

Once the vote is over (passes) and the threat of a NO vote is gone, the forums will open back up. There will be a big sticky about not to 'hurt' people (one guy was talking about pain and suffering...) and SAPA will continue to represent management while selling out the people they are supposed to 'represent'. Sad thing is the majority of pilots do not even realize what just happened.
