Now as for the other side of the coin, time off, I'm not sure if the work to pay ratio is also the best at Swa or somewhere else.

This help me understand better. It makes sense at SWA it's very easy to fly as little or as much as one desires (since one airframe, all pilots qual'ed on same aircraft, easier to trade/give/take trips.) My original post was based on the same amount of work/time away from home, or same amount of hrs/month.

Thanks for the input. It helped more than others who quickly got offensive instead of trying to help out.

Besides picking up extra time, do the SWA guys have any other good ideas to bank extra $$ to level the playing field with legacy folks higher hourly rates?

On the new contract we will have Captains making over 600K if they want to clear their boards and work the system. Pretty soon it will be the "700 Club"...wait where is Pat Robertson at...

Flying "as little" is not as easy at SWA as some other places. Spirit probably has the best work rules when it comes to flying as little. Or you can bid reserve FO WB at a legacy. At Southwest you can count on flying most reserve days, and you can't drop trips to the company, only give them away. However, you need some seniority horsepower for that because nobody wants your Fri-Mon four day...

Another question about SWA's pay style, Trip For Pay. So it's based on the distance between the airports, with 1 TFP being the distance between DAL and HOU, correct? Does SWA account for flight time in any manor? What about the case where you have to go into holding for whatever delay? Or pushing from the gate, waiting an hour in the takeoff line on the taxiway for whatever delay, and have to return to the gate for more gas? How does SWA account for this 'extra' time outside of the TFP?

Holding is based on a block bid. Bids come out in August. You have to be pretty senior for that, so good luck if you have a junior crew. I can't hold until October, so...

First 4 minutes over scheduled block are free. After that, 0.02 TFP per minute over.

SWA Hopeful

Hi guys, currently at a regional with hopes on coming to SWA someday. I was hoping someone can tell me how junior or senior MCO, LAS, and MDW are. Also if someone has a schedule to take a look at.
Thanks
Mike

So a trip has a TFP value with it based on distance. And they also have a block time associated with that TFP? Is that block time a reasonable number? Or do they over estimate time so you can't claim much of the 0.02TFP*every minute after the first 4 minutes?

Last I've read in here is you can hold any base within a few months of employment, EXCEPT ATL. That one is way senior still.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

This is the single most important thing to know about SW. Getting rid of flying is extremely challenging... at least for those of us who were brought up to only use sick time when you're sick.
