Plotting?

Just curious if you guys are plotting on paper charts in Class II airspace? Or doing the “Post Position Check” using your iPads/ND?

I don’t think they’re allowed in Class II.

Paper plotting.

Plotting?! Hell, “just fly it like a -200!”

ROFF 05-22-2019 03:52 PM

Yep, paper plotting.

You'd be surprised how inaccurate 2 GPSs and 2 IRS can be.

The FAA is on it.

Well its the way Herb did it

This place amazes me sometimes....We have a ton of qualed ETOPS guys here but they were in the wrong squadron to help re invent the wheel the TX way. They have CKA who have never flown ETOPS before teaching other CKA how to do it one or two flights. We need to have RQ pilots who did this day in and day out for years to help. Just one humble civilians opinion...

PS...Yes I did volunteer and so did several other OAK pilots with serious over water time....

PSS... Clutch I can see we used to drive some of the same metal years ago...SAT

Yup. You pretty much nailed it on that assessment.

I’m confused. What do we do differently? I talked to a UA buddy and he said they do paper plotting as well. I guess it may have changed since last year, but that’s what he stated. I didn’t think there was much to it. I enjoy the flights.

I left SAT in 1990. Do you go to the reunions? I hosted the last one in Titusville, FL last year.

Don't know if they do still, but DAL doesn't any longer.

But this is only fair....SWA should have to paper plot the US/Hawaii flights for at least a few years to make up for all the years that Legacy pilots were required to until the FAA finally agreed to let it go.
