All it took to be #1 was to keep flying a fleet of empty airplanes, while the rest of the world’s airlines parked their fleets. Setting ourselves up for concessions, instead of saving money and costs.

I’ve got to believe there’s a master plan to perhaps capture more market share on the backside of this or ......?

However, seeing some of the past debacles in the operation and manning perhaps it’s much more simple than that and they’re mismanaging this is as well.

Leaning towards the latter. This is the same SWA that hired me 13 years ago. Not sure what master plan would require extra airplanes to be in the air empty. We can capture market share quickly on the backside in more than one way.

Pointless reporting.

The music hasn’t even started in this whole mess.

Think of this what you will..

I had a talk with a mechanic the other day that said it was actually to cheaper to keep the airplanes flying on a 14-17 cycle then to ground everything and ramp it back up. So actually flying around mostly empty airplanes in the short term is cheaper than letting them sit for 2 months.

Def. time for a Churchill quote; Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
While the airline industry may emerge humbled, and holding its boy bits gasping for breath; many other industries will be decimated. I live in the middle of the largest city in the country. Retail & Hospitality have an axe in their heads. If they can't make it New York; they cant make it anywhere....
