Network Down?

As we know last night was a sh1t show with the “third party weather” data problem.

Looks like at present time the entire network is down.

Besides tech debt, any news?

Time for new beads on the abacus and string for the tin cans.

Anyone jumpseating should have secondary plans, folks. This week SWA celebrates our 50th anniversary...with the same computers we had back then.

Waiting for Gary to ctrl-alt-del .

SO………*******ING……..PATHETIC.

Seriously, can anyone explain why we are so tech pathetic. I mean, how many years (decades?) does it take to fix the damn WiFi?!

docav8tor 06-15-2021 11:02 AM

Some systems are back to normal. It's just their way of getting a Yeti to those who didn't get one last meltdown. Happy Birthday!

AdmiralofRears 06-15-2021 11:04 AM

Sorry guys. I waited to the last minute to change my password. I accept full responsibility for this debacle.

Zman81 06-15-2021 11:56 AM

Heard some guys are ubering to hotels to not share the same van as passengers. Someone said there was like 30+ people at a curb waiting to board the hotel van lol.

CA1900 06-15-2021 01:04 PM

It's ok everybody, I fixed it.

As a pax and an employee today it was a **** show. Airports were packed with ****ed of pax who said F it to the masks mandate as we all were sandwiched into small areas with long lines for food and bathrooms. Hopefully out of this the Gov wakes up and at least tries to fix some of the employment problems and let's people breath again.
I expect a 128 can yeti cooler full of my favorite IPA out of this.

Thanks to our wonderful federal government unemployment stipend, everyone makes too much money not working than to serve food at the airport. The people running our country have shown what happens when you give out too much free money. Well, it's not free. Inflation is now skyrocketing. Back on point, too many airport food vendors can't staff so they refuse to open. Owners don't care because they got the PPP money making then whole or in some cases they made more through PPP than they would if they were open.

I can tell you the two restaurant owners I know aren’t in that boat. The China flu didn’t put them out of business but not getting employees might. Three others that own businesses aren’t in the restaurant business. They are subsidizing the lack of employees by getting larger equipment to do more with less people. Americans have become lazy pigs. All they want is a handout and what they haven’t worked for. It’s your money and the lazy Americans want it now!

Maybe the market has just corrected itself. Why make $3/hr as a restaurant server when similar jobs are paying much more? These businesses were quick to layoff workers without any sympathy, so I'm not sure why you, as a labor employee, fault anyone for taking a better option.

MudhammedCJ 06-16-2021 09:18 AM

Or better yet, automate coffee making. Maybe give the barista some motivation to get a real degree or trade training so they can be both useful to society and make a decent living by providing that useful service. Because piercing every part of your body, and spending more than you make in a month on a ridiculous tattoo is not the best lifestyle choice.

AUS has the robot barista machine which turns out some pretty good coffee. I was also in line one day when it got out of sync and failed in pretty epic fashion. It was basically dumping drink after drink onto the floor of the terminal and it was at that point that I quit worrying about a Pilot-less airplane.

MudhammedCJ 06-16-2021 10:54 AM

I'm ready for single pilot ops. Less SNAP bs to listen to.

ROFF 06-16-2021 10:57 AM

Reliance on automation is why this happened in the first place.

More to come you can be sure.

Not every state pays the $2.13/hour tipped employee minimum wage. Arizona (where my daughter is a server) pays $9.15 to start. She makes $12/hour plus tips, with $300 in tips not being uncommon.

BKbigfish 06-16-2021 11:34 AM

Amazing how quickly you guys turned a thread about a spectacular failure of the private sector into a thread whining about the federal government.

i watched the robot barista spaz out in similar fashion. That plus my idiot roomba that managed to get stuck in an empty square room assured me i'm probably safe from automation.

Funny the waitresses at my one friends restaurant make $70,000 plus per year. Hardly $3 per hr. Because he has people applying and never showing up for the interview. He has always treated employees great! Another gets fake numbers on the applications. I’m sure it’s all made up and people that want these jobs really want to work.

The federal gubment IS the failure in this instance by doling out so much socialist money that people don’t don’t want to work. Morons. Absolute morons.

PilotBases 06-16-2021 01:40 PM

I wonder how every pilot baying for automation feels about single pilot Ops. Surely we are the exception right? Just ask your flight engineer, or navigator.

Didn't we all get to keep our jobs for the last 18 months thanks to that socialist money?

Without it, we might both have been looking for a job as a barista!

Yes, and I’m not so sure I agree with that but we weren’t getting paid MORE than our original pay like so many are nowadays.

Actually for that statement to apply to Southwest Airlines I would say is incorrect. If true capitalism was to take hold SWA would have lasted longer then any of our competitors. With Alaska being second behind us. If one of the big 3 had failed within the first 6 months you would have seen SWA race to fill the void on their hubs with even a smaller presence of what they had. No one wishes (hopefully) anyone to suffer. But the reality is the govt kept mostly everyone afloat including small businesses that got money from the govt. There was no perfect solution to the pandemic and playing hindsight quarter back is always easy.

Fuseplug 06-16-2021 09:01 PM

Down again tonight as of about 0015 eastern. No CWA, no SWALife, and no Southwest.com. Real convenient as our crew was trying to work hotels for our last minute unscheduled overnight.

ETA: Not to mention all the customers trying to recover after the disaster that this week is proving to be.

Yeah, they lost my bag tonight and couldn't login to the system. Customer facing website is down as well. Good times.

ToddChavez 06-16-2021 09:22 PM

DEN an absolute nightmare right now. Everything delayed 2-3 hours. Multiple pax who had the same happen a day ago... police are everywhere...

Smokey23 06-17-2021 05:53 AM

Happy 50th anniversary.

Somehow, I think these two events may not be a coincidence...

They didn’t take a “better option”. They were sitting at home taking full unemployment, plus $600 a week bonus Covid unemployment, plus subsidized rent, food payments, etc.

The $600 went away a long time ago and the $300 dries up soon. Believe it or not, there are better options than getting $8/hr to sling burritos at the airport.

Funny that you're ****ting on them when airlines did the exact same thing, but on a much larger scale. How many airline pilots sat on their ass getting full pay on the taxpayer's dime?
