Hey and more good news, we are upgrading to SABRE software for our contractor interface lol. Fairly certain that thing still runs on DOS

Wasn't that the company who was buying out Dunder Mifflin?

They had some real reliability issues with their printers. They’ll fit right in here.

Hi Folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster. West coast based, I am about a 2.5 hour drive from LAX, 4.5 hour drive from OAK, and a 4.5 hour drive from LAS. If I were to not get OAK/LAX right out of training, how long would it take as a junior F/O to bid into those bases? Additionally, how difficult is the commute to the other junior bases that have been getting assigned out of training (BWI specifically, since it seems there are quite a few NH’s going there). Just trying to look at the whole picture in order to make an informed decision. I know it changes month to month, and I appreciate any and all inputs. Thank you. |

Cross country commutes suck, especially to secondary airports like BWI or OAK, but you can do anything for a month. The commuter policy is also super easy to use. Good luck. |

Thank you both for the replies!

One month. Two tops. Those bases are a revolving door for commuters.

What is Southwest’s commuter policy exactly? If you wouldn’t mind sharing it with me |

Your commute flight has to be scheduled to arrive 1 hour prior to your report time. You need only one if it's on our own metal, or two if it's on someone else.
The worst kept secret at SWA and probably the best thing about the commuter policy is that nobody is checking on you to see if you are adhering to it. Like most things pilot related, they treat you like an adult until you give them a reason not to. Show up to work on time or call them and tell them you aren't. Pilots are mostly very dependable and super meticulous about being where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there so this one rarely gets tested. When my commute has fallen apart, I have called and given them updates. Their one and only question is always "will you make push?" If the answer is no, they just need to know what the plan is. They will abide by the contract and try to catch you up to your trip (nonrev travel with no pay). In my experience, this is always a mistake and so now I just call in sick and go home. The stress melts away on my way to the parking lot. I have had several bad commutes over the years and have not had a single visit to the CPO. They truly don't have time to harass people trying to do the right thing. |
Does anyone commute from NW Florida? I just got a CJO, but I am currently tied to that area. I was wondering what the easiest base to commute from the panhandle is? Follow up question, how do they assign your first domicile in training?
