Quote: No buddy, I get what you’re saying. Sure, I have a life outside of work, but FFS, this wokester bullsh*t is borderline hostile work environment.

Has anyone heard that supposedly a new hire has been falsely accused by one of these social justice heroes that he was heard at the bar talking badly about transsexuals and now People Department is involved?

supposedly one small problem… the accused individual’s name doesn’t match the description given by the wokester.

You can only turn blind eye to this type of nonsense for so long.

Yeah I don't know man. To each their own, I guess. I truly don't let it bother me and I tend to judge others on their own merits rather than what a news channel or coworker leads me to believe based on their preconceived notions.

If someone is wearing a pronoun pin, then cool, good for them. I may mess it up and call them the wrong thing, but not on purpose. I'm in my late 40s and it's hard to change at this point, but I am trying to adapt so that I am not the old man screaming at clouds.

Anyone in this business who is "at work" and saying the wrong thing at the bar is an idiot. There is a reason that I rarely "come down" and rather try to peel my coworker off and do something else if I deem them worthy of my time. If you are at the bar in a crew hotel, you are at work. Period. Flight attendants and their write up culture have no place in my life. The days of resolving things person to person via an apology and a handshake are over. Honestly, I would rather spend time with my dog, but I can't bring her to work with me (yet).

I guess I just don't let it bother me, but that's cool if you want to let it. Anti wokeness is a favorite topic of the outrage media and politicians who don't have a real platform to run on. I could care less.

Agree 100%. I flew corporate for a big discount retailer that is well known for being extremely conservative. They were trying to build stores in big cities, so they sponsored a pride parade. That made some Christian organization mad, and they threatened a national boycot. So, we jumped in the airplane and flew down to their headquarters in Tupelo, Mississippi so the execs could smooth things over (most likely with a sizable donation). When they were done, they hopped back in the jet and we went directly to the big city where the same executive glad handed with politicians and organizers of the parade. What I learned is that businesses that want to grow in a variety of regions with diverse demographics have to support both the potential customers and potential employees in those regions. It’s a delicate balancing act to try and be supportive of one without alienating the other. They can’t be apolitical because if they want to grow in (insert market here) they’ll be pressed by politicians in that market to demonstrate that they fit in as a business in that community.

I’m pretty politically moderate and even I don’t read those emails. Just let it roll off your back and talk more about gliders and bbq and whatnot. At work avoid talking about politics, religion, and hot button topics and it can still be a fun job. But geez, don’t let yourself get fired or lose a medical over it!

I don’t hang around that work group either. I hope we succeed in splitting off to separate hotels. It’s not that I don’t like them and don’t want to hang out with them. it’s that it isn’t worth gambling my career on the chance that I say the wrong thing over a basket of wings a Diet Coke.

Maybe Newhire was at the bar with his old military layover name tag: "Dick Gozinya" or "Phil McCracken" .....like when we used to have a SENSE OF HUMOR!

Here's a newsflash... I want an APOLITICAL employer. I want the only color to matter here be green - MONEY. This is an airline, not a social media company. Not a social justice company. Not a political party. An airline.

I'm sick of the divisive bull***t masked as "inclusivity", I'm tired of "featuring" this race or that race, this gay, that lesbian, this transsexual, this non-binary, etc. and implying you're an evil human being if you don't care to have that shoved in your face on a daily basis. Here's a newsflash I want to see:

"VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion spends a week in DEN throwing bags and getting mando'd into double shifts."
"This is the SWA Ramper's month. We will feature DEN ramp and the challenges they face and go to various bases and outstations."
"This month, we will spend a month with our Pilots and see how we all integrate together into this fine-tuned machine called Southwest Airlines."

So on and so forth.

I couldn't give two diddly squats about someone's race, who they sleep with, who they're married to, what their religion is... I see a hustling CoHeart. I see an example for others to follow. Don't make me look at his race. Make me look at his jersey that shows SOUTHWEST AIRLINES and celebrate him or her for what they contribute to Southwest Airlines.

When I see Bob Jordan on TV on CNBC mind you... financial news only, talking about DEI and environment, I want to puke. We are an airline, not a social club. I want him to talk airline sh*t, not some wokester idea of social justice sh*t.

Sounds like this is too much to ask.
Exactly!!! 👏 👏

And yet here y’all are (again) giving four diddly squats about the fact someone else is giving two diddly squats about something you profess to give no diddly squats about…
So much easier to ignore the stuff that’s not your cup of tea. I actually had no idea we have a VP of Diversity other than you guys rabbling about it all the time. They haven’t caused me any reroutes or JAs that I know of, so I guess I really just…don’t care.

What everyone is saying here, is that they have picked a side. Every one of you.

Quote: That gag reflex comes from doomscrolling social media and keeping the TV on your "news" channel of political choice (fox, msnbc, etc). Turn off the outage media and talk to people about stuff that doesn't make you angry. You may be surprised what you and the person with pronouns and a Prius have in common. You're both American taxpayers with families, jobs, and mortgages.

It's entertainment wrapped up to look like news. It gets people addicted to being angry. Too many pilots have bought in to it hook, line, and sinker and it influences their every word and action.
Amen. The majority of mainstream media today is nothing more than divisive, bias confirming "info"tainment. At best.

Great post!

That's more or less what we used to do around here.

Back in the day, company correspondence (Luv Lines etc.) would often highlight various departments, explaining what they do and how they contribute to making the operation, run, which was like a swiss watch the vast majority of the time.

Like now, there was plenty of "diversity" amongst the employees, but that was never mentioned, because we were all just PEOPLE working towards a common goal, which was to make SWA as profitable as possible.
