Lance

Two questions. How can I see who is holding lance in a given base?

Can a lance pick up left seat flying from any source or are there restrictions? i.e. can they bid POT from any base?

Bid packets. They have a star next to their name. Hence the use "keep a star" or "lose a star."

And. yes, you can pick up left seat flying anywhere, but remember, as a lance, you're the rock bottom priority for any OT. From the contract:

Order of Open Time Award:
  1. Additional Captain flying will be awarded in the following order. For this section, the term “legal” is to include the limitations set forth in Section 5.D.2.l and currency and qualifications required in Section 6.B.2.g for ETOPS and Near International stations requiring Supervised Airport Qualifications at the time of the legality check in the Crew Management System. A pairing will not be removed once it is placed on the pilot’s line, if an updated time causes a violation of Section 5.D.2.l.
    1. Captain in domicile, legal, available, under the CAP.
    2. Captain in domicile, legal, available, over the CAP.
    3. Captain out of domicile, legal, available, under the CAP.
    4. Captain out of domicile, legal, available, over the CAP.
    5. Designated Lance Captain in domicile, legal, available, under the CAP.
    6. Designated Lance Captain in domicile, legal, available, over the CAP.
    7. Designated Lance Captain out of domicile, legal, available, under the CAP.
    8. Designated Lance Captain out of domicile, legal, available, over the CAP.
    9. For POT and SNOT-Premium only, Captain in domicile legal, available, under the CAP on designated non-fly events.
    10. For POT and SNOT-Premium only, Captain in domicile legal, available, over the CAP on designated non-fly events.
    11. For POT and SNOT-Premium only, Captain out of domicile, legal, available, under the CAP on designated non-fly events.
    12. For POT and SNOT-Premium only, Captain out of domicile, legal, available, over the CAP on designated non-fly events.

Can pick up out of any base, not restrictions . Bid turns if you can hold them, easier to give away . The bid packet has the star next to who is lance

Can also grab cpt trips out of TTGA

Does Southwest pay FO's when they have IOE on a trip? Can they also pick up any open time when released from the IOE trips? If so, why would you ever want to upgrade with a LANCE program? Stay a senior FO, get your trips bought, and pick up CAPT open time.

-Lance program has a 12 month limit
-can’t fly over a Removed for Training event
-being a senior FO has nothing to do with getting trips bought. It’s having trips with a ckam that have the desired training footprint that does.

remember, SWA still has line bidding so you have find a LCA to bid with and hope they don't trade/drop trips. Not as easy to sharp shoot as in a PBS bidding situation.

Ok, it sounded too good to be true. So, after 12 months you have to upgrade or become a regular FO again?

Yes. Not as easy without a LCA friend.

yes. Unless there are noncapyain vacancies then I believe you can keep the designation.
