SWA or AA

I have CJO for both SWA and AA. I will be living in Nashville, TN so the BNA rumors have me leaning to SWA. However AA has a lot of movement and new contract on the horizon. Any advice would be great.

every time I’ve JS on AA everyone was grumpy. Except one time. Just a different attitude over there but maybe more smiles when they get a new contract soon.

Hasn’t been my experience.

If BNA opens for swa, my bet is it goes senior. It has been a rumor for 20-30 years though. I think either would be good. I’d probably take the seniority at AA along with the diversity of flying. Idk though.

Go with the better contract in hand, which is going to be AA. Would never base the decision on a domicile that may or may not happen. Management at SWA is so slow moving I fear they may force our pilot group to strike to achieve a fair contract.

New base(s) are supposed to be announced this fall FWIW

Hard one. I’d say AA if you are commuting either way, but there is a pretty strong case for BNA opening as a pilot base for SWA. From our union “AUS, BNA, and STL are prime candidates based on the number of overnighting aircraft and the number of daily flight departures.”

Unfortunately for you, you’re going to have to make a decision prior to any announcement.

Advice? Go to Delta. Oh, and buy the new Miata.

Apples to apples for the average pilot, it’s a network carrier over an lcc/ulcc.

All all reasonable career destinations but you’d need a specific-to-you plus factor to pick sw over aa.

You will be fine at either to be honest. To be more helpful though I will expand.

1. I wouldn’t compare contracts as we will all be getting one soon, some sooner than others but soon nonetheless.

2. I agree with the other poster that said AA employees are grumpy, especially the gate agents and lot of their FA’s. I commuted on them for five years.

3. Do you have any desire to fly WB? If so AA is the choice.

4. Don’t base any decision on a planned base until it’s written in stone.

5. We fly dense trips but I enjoy the time off. I havent had a month yet other than reserve with less than 17 days off and I’m junior.

6. How old are you? The you get you are the. Ore I would push for AA just because you will have longer to take advantage of the seniority.

best of luck, you will be happy at either.

I really appreciate everyone's advice on this. I have no airline experience, as I have only flown in the military. However I have heard the number one reason to pick an airline is to live in base.

I am 35 years old.
