New App Process for 2024

Looks like they are changing up the application process for the new year. Just got an email from SWA saying...

"While you won't see an open posting on Jan. 7 like in months past, rest assured you'll be the first to know when we post the next First Officer opening by being part of this Talent Community! We’ll stay in touch and share about the upcoming opportunities to meet with the Southwest Team"

Wonder if the new system will be more like UAL and AA.

There is no change to the application system; they turned off the hiring window for this month due to the new TA and manning levels.

Okay thanks, the email I got made it seem like they were trying to build a system that doesn't make everyone re-apply every month. This is my first time applying so I haven't experienced that yet but it would seem like this could be a good change for those that don't get called right away.

Here is the beginning of the email that was sent out...
"New year, new process! With the start of 2024, we’re evaluating our monthly posting cadence for the First Officer opportunity to best serve you, our current candidates, and our Recruitment Teams. We understand it takes time and effort to apply, and we're committed to providing the best experience as candidates interview at Southwest."

The answer is always Delta.

By “evaluating their monthly cadence” they’re saying “we’ve had an open hiring window every month for easily a year. Some may think this is the standard. Currently we are deciding with current outstanding CJOs and TA ramifications if we need to continue a monthly open window.” There was a time where this window was smaller, shorter, and way more less frequent than the previous year has been.

Got a buddy who had a CJO in Early Nov or so and his class date is March and he hasn’t had any luck moving up to an earlier one. No need to interview constantly when you’ve got a pool (don’t want a pool when everyone else is hiring also).

Airline Apps is such a beast, though I was wildly unorganized when I started filling it out. Can't fault it for being thorough.

I'm in a similar boat. CJO 28 Sept, had to hold off until signing until early Nov due to timining of mil separation, given a March 5 class date. Asked if I could move up a week but the hiring team said they didnt have anything available. Looking forward to getting to Dallas and getting on with it!

ThreeGreens 01-08-2024 01:24 PM

Guess i shouldnt have cancelled my November interview.

Check your email -- I also had a March 5 class but I just got an email from SWA stating that class dates are changing and that someone from the hiring team will reach out by phone to discuss. Looks like dates are getting pushed back ..

A friend just told me several who had interviews next month were called and told they are canceled due to revised planning. They will have to resubmit apps once window is open again and start the eitire process all over again.

Theyre also delaying class start dates. Got the call today that my training was being delayed 30 days from my originally assigned class

ToTheTabs 01-13-2024 09:07 AM

I think I got in by the skin of my teeth. I was in the last group to interview in 2023 and got a CJO on 12/8. They never assigned a class date, though. I'm assuming April now maybe?

Happened to me. Got the call from SWA yesterday as Im studying for the interview. No estimate on next open window. Supposedly new hiring standards to be tougher. VERY disapointing those of us w interview dates couldnt come in with the understanding that a class date is X months out. If I go anywhere else right now Im locked in for a year contract basically. So much for the LUV.

Anyone else heard anything?

I would guess later than that. Seems like they've cut class sizes in half. So just working through the classes that were in place through March they'll be into June.

MellowDude 01-13-2024 06:27 PM

WTF?

I interviewed on 8 Jan. Anyone heard anything? Any CJOs offered? I know we were told it has become a decision board. NET 19 Jan annoucement but some Captains I interviewed said me might hear back sooner

itsmehi 01-13-2024 10:43 PM

how many were there to interview? I interviewed 9th but heard nothing yet... was told 19th is latest.

Death2Daleks 01-14-2024 08:15 AM

My interview was cancelled as well. Very disappointing.

Jeta3 01-14-2024 08:24 AM

I got the call and joined the cancelled interview club. Frustrating part is I'll have to reapply all over again. The next hiring window will likely be pretty competitive. They told me to expect a new hiring window in a couple months.

Aren't you applying to all the majors? Being that you were called by SWA once already don’t you think you are qualified?

Av8r75 01-14-2024 03:44 PM

I also received the blanket email from talent aquisition about the new process, but that is sent to anyone who subscribes to the talent team messages on the careers website.

My Application from December window still shows "In Process" and no call or email saying I need to reapply.....

Things are looking to be more competative going forward with hiring slowing overall and likely the new FO payrates.

I would be applying everywhere...

what is considered “competitive” now vs 2/3 months ago?

People will say we hired anyone with a pulse last year which is untrue. We had plenty of people that were turned away. What did change last year was the minimum times came way down, something I imagine will be back on the rise going forward. The days of hiring someone with a wet ATP I imagine have seen their end.

RealEstatePilot 01-15-2024 08:13 AM

For what its worth, I was called this morning and re-offered a new class date that is sooner than what I was pushed back to last week. As the dust settles with people deciding to go elsewhere as a result of training being delayed more changes will come I am sure.

I'd be happy if they'd just give me any class date. Obviously sooner would be better, but not knowing anything and getting no communication on a timeframe is less than ideal.

Did you not pick one on workday when you got the CJO? I had mine very quickly after the CJO

There havent been any to pick from. It just says to keep checking back for available dates, but it has said that for over a month now.

UGA AV8R 01-15-2024 01:02 PM

Bummer. Got the email too. Had everything in, but no luck ever finding an interview date. Guess now I know why.

qwing 01-16-2024 07:23 PM

I had my app in too the past few months. Third rejection, and this time I actually met the hiring mins too. :(

Traffic Alert 01-17-2024 04:54 AM

There might be an influx of qualified applicants after the blocked merger. If that’s the case, mins will be going up everywhere.

Well all my buddies with thousands of hours of Jet PIC are calling me for letters all the sudden...🤷🏼‍♂️

Things have changed, classes are full for months. New contract is great, all airlines slowing down hiring. Congrats on whoever got hired like 12-24 months ago and did not leave, and lives in base.

We should get some Airbuses to go with all the Airbus pilots that are suddenly interested.

Right! I'd fly the bus in a heartbeat as long it can go ETOPS...😂
