I think our boarding system was perfect when we were doing 20 minute turns. If passengers knew that they were the last to board then they'd get stuck in the back rows in a middle seat then they were more inclined to show up and board early. We can't turn a -700 in less than :45 minutes now due to all the free bags and general low GAS levels of ground ops, so we may as well assign seats like everyone else. People either love it or hate it (mostly hate it), and I will say as a father with little kids it can be very annoying and stressful.

As someone who has a paid ticket to commute (occasionally) on SWA I have to tell you that the cattle call sucks. It's like nonrevving with a paid ticket, you have to make sure you are on the app exactly 24 hours out or you are stuck in zone C. Or, hey, you can get one of the first 15 slots if you pay $250 extra on top of. that original $200 fare.

Don't even get me going on the 3 oz cup of Diet Coke that they are balancing on their tray. After they try to figure out who exactly ordered what drink.

I used to love jumpseating on you guys back when I could, and I had to, but as a business traveler it's not a pleasant experience.

Why do they call it a cattle call? When I ride on anyone else, I still stand in line just as long and I never see the FAs having any issues with the drinks. Pax can use the restroom when they're doing the drink service. You always set the alarm for the checkin and you're guaranteed an isle seat if you need one. The only thing about our boarding process is having small kids, but then they're guaranteed to board after goup A.
