“With that knowledge, Elliott is trying to find the easiest way to turn Southwest into an ATM. It only has a little over 10 percent of the airline's shares, so it needs investor allies. And that's where it focused its attention first.

I don't know if this has changed, but in the first day or two, I'm told Elliott didn't even try to talk to labor. It's entirely possible that labor just wasn't as important in Elliott's minds and they've gotten there now, but it's a critical mistake if you're trying to win hearts and minds.”

Except he's calling out the Republicans as they've been in the pocket of this vulture capitalist... In fact, if you didn't know anything about Tucker or FNC, and you saw this segment, you'd think this was a left wing hit piece.

You should watch it. This guy is coming at us.

I am in total agreement with you RJS. This is not the good omen that some pilots think it is. If the scenario plays out the wrong way, it could do big harm to this company and its employees. Hoping to be proven wrong. These hedge fund/VC "activists" are like a dystopian feature of late stage capitalism.

Yeah while they might clean house, their long-term interests are not necessarily aligned with employee interests... especially employees stuck in a seniority/longevity system.

What company or airline would hire Andrew as a CEO other than SWA? Hawaiian let him walk out the door.

Amen brother. Completely agree. I also desperately want to be proven wrong, but I don't trust these vultures at all. This latest blog from CrankyFlier was spot on... these vultures literally cannot lose no matter what happens. While I'm a big proponent and fan of capitalism, I think vulture capitalism ought to be banned.

They most certainly aren't aligned with employee interests. They want stock and they can get it by running a great airline, or by selling off all the aircraft and shutting down the whole airline.

Management is never aligned with employee interest. Get a clue.

Honest question.

Why doesn’t Southwest start charging for bags? Or put some upgraded economy rows they can charge for? Can they charge for a seat assignment? Other airlines have made billions on these fees over the last 15 years.

Might be a catch-22 though. The more they start looking like other airlines, the more people will start shopping other airlines.
