Headset Recommendations
Hello all! I am joining SWA as a new hire soon and was curious what most of you guys and gals recommend for a headset? I have a Telex 850 passive ANR that was fine on the A320 but I have heard people say it's not effective on the 73. The David Clark Pro X ANR seems a little less bulky than a full, over the ear Bose setup. Does anyone use the 850? I like as small of a setup as possible. I even thought about getting another 5x5 with ear molds like the old RJ days. Sorry if this info is buried deep in the threads of APC.

Resurrected from deep in the threads of APC. Still holds true today.

The best headset option is the one that works best for you. Don't listen to the loudmouth know-it-all sitting to your left. Everyone's melon is different. Try out several (almost all reputable mfrs will give you a free trial period) before pulling the trigger. I'm a Clarity Aloft guy, FWIW.

welcome and congratulations! I use the A30 but the A30 is far from the standard… seems like it’s a huge mash up of preferred headsets you’ll see guys with the 850, A20, Ufly Mike, clarity, proflight, David Clark PRO and who knows what else. In the 73 I personally have ran the proflight, a20, and a30 and I prefer the a30. I’ve used the 750, 850 and DC PRO in different jets and I don’t this they’d work for me in the 737 I do think we get a discount on the DC PROs through SWAPA, if you go that route |

As other mentioned, you can get a discount by going through the SWAPA website. Welcome aboard! |
Thanks for the advise! I will wait until I am able to have access to the SWAPA discounts. I'll just roll with the 850 for now and see how bad it is. I was packing it in my bag for my hopefully last trip at my current gig and figured I would ask about it. Thanks all!

I am a fan of the lightweight Bose headset. Proflight Series 2. Almost no clamping force on your head for long days, ANC works great for a relatively quiet cockpit like the 737. I use mine with rechargeable batteries. Had a cable start to fray a few years ago. Called Bose for warranty, they fixed and returned it within 72 hours. Just make sure they know you are airline.

Does the company still give an allowance for a headset?

A20 or A30. 73 is loud

I love the DC Pro X's, except they're back in the shop for the second time under warranty for the same problem. I wish they had as good of customer service as Lightspeed and Bose.
