I used to cover for company men before I figured out they care more about bragging rights than they care for the well being of 130 pax. |

The guys who brag about "never calling in sick" are not any healthier than anyone else, they just come into work sick, and get everyone else sick.

I would disagree with the above poster because I have been blessed with good health. A vegan for a wife who has reduced my cholesterol significantly and as an employee for over 23 years means I have accumulated sick leave at a rate that reflects my being healthy. Instead of calling in sick because I deserve it I have called in sick when I am sick. 30 years ago I had a fellow officer ask if I thought I was Abe Lincoln or something because I insisted on doing something that was right. To this day I wear that as a badge of honor! Especially after he was drummed out of the Marine Corps for conduct unbecoming. Dishonesty is what it is and I sleep well at night and believe I am a good example for my kids and my grandkids. I am not perfect but everyone must ask themselves if they are doing things right. Eventually you will answer for living in the gray zone. Good luck! The Oscar |
Thanks, Oscar. That's the way I see it too. And the thought of "sticking it" to the company that's providing a living for me, my family and all my colleagues and their families seems pretty close to being evil to me.

If you're an AT capt who might be a capt again soon come 2015, you might want to reconsider Wahmasters math.
Remember, it's sick time, not sick pay. |
I must say I totally agree with Oscar and Cowboy and (dare I say it) 1Seat. I am looking forward to accruing sick time under the SWA system instead of the punitive AirTran system. :D

How was the AT system punitive? You know, just in case they want to try sneak it into our new sec 6.

If you have 4+ 'instances' per rolling 12 month period, your accrual rate is reduced to 5 hours per month. If you had a 'negative sick bank' when the new contract started, they deducted another hour per month to 'pay it back'. So you could be down to 4 hours per month. |

If you work in airplanes and airports, you will get sick, period. My point is that if you are sick, especially with something that is contagious, stay home. Find some other way to tell everyone what a great employee and shining example of humankind you are. Over and Out. |
