Thanks guys for the answers. I have a few more, but first just got a call today offering a feb 7th class date with wait lisiting the 24th. Do they ever send an email or letter with an official job offer? Or is it just the phone calls? Now my other questions...

1. How do buddy passes work? Accrual/actual usage
2. If you want to go international on another carrier are zed fairs available?
3. How many TFP do you guys average a month? I know it depends on the person but just wondering what to expect.
4. Since OAK is probably in my future, do most people get crash pads or are hotels affordable there?
5.How does jumpseating work? Priority? Can you reserve it?

1. Guest passes can be purchased using "swag" points earned for perfect attendance each month. Each pass is basically a standby voucher for a round trip (two legs each way). You list the guest online.

3. It will depend on your domicile, reserve status, your success at trading reserve for flying, etc., but 95 to 105 TFP per month is reasonable. The new pay scale will make a big difference for SWA newhires.

It will be difficult to find a crash pad in OAK. I use the Days Inn ($65) when I get stuck. Hotels range 65 and up. Luckily I have an easy commute and haven't needed a hotel room in several months. I work PMs and live in socal.

As for TFP you can work as much (not as little) as you want at SWA. I averaged 130 TFP per month in my first year, 125 in my second year and maybe 120 in my third. If you live in domicile sky is the limit. Lots of guys work more than me lots work less. This place encourages workaholics so you will need to find your healthy balance.

If you happen to be a military reservist, you accrue the buddy pass points at a startling rate.

For health care take a very hard look at the Regular Plan.

My family had a very bad year in the health department. My youngest was in the hospital for 2 weeks with pneumonia and the bills are still rolling in. I bet it will be 200k for the family for the year once all the dust settles. I'm thankful I chose the regular plan since I'm only responsible for 2500. It's truly top notch coverage. You just need to be a little pro active with choosing in network providers. I'm sure there are benefits to the other plans but I can't figure them out!

The Company will try hard to steer you away from Regular plan by saying how it doesn't cover things such as mammograms or preventative medicine. What they won't tell you is that most everything is covered if it has a diagnostic billing code. They will also try to sell you on a company life insurance plan as a carrot to steer you away from the Regular plan. Most pilots here have their own life insurance plans that are far cheaper option than the Company plans.

As for how much you can work and plan on, that's really up to you. If you do absolutely zero pick-up and you're a reserve pilot, I'd plan on around 100 assuming you have no overlap...

I do around 125-130 average because I live in domicile and pick up stuff here and there. Bear in mind that anything you pick up from the company beyond your original line value pays at second year rate so there's a pretty big financial incentive to play the OT game.
