What they won't tell you is that most everything is covered if it has a diagnostic billing code. They will also try to sell you on a company life insurance plan as a carrot to steer you away from the Regular plan. Most pilots here have their own life insurance plans that are far cheaper option than the Company plans.

As for how much you can work and plan on, that's really up to you. If you do absolutely zero pick-up and you're a reserve pilot, I'd plan on around 100 assuming you have no overlap...

I do around 125-130 average because I live in domicile and pick up stuff here and there. Bear in mind that anything you pick up from the company beyond your original line value pays at second year rate so there's a pretty big financial incentive to play the OT game.

Congratulations and welcome!!

Absolutely second the regular plan
The company does not like it..and as a matter of fact during our indoc they did not even MENTION it. Which, knowing what I know now, I would've called the union about.

If you are military, do Tricare reserve AND the regular plan and forego the 50$ a month stipend from the company. It is much better in the long run than that 50 bucks.

Unless you're going to make OAK your base you will only be there for a maximum of one month and maybe not at all. Plus it will be your hard line month so you can get away with very few hotels.
I've been on reserve this whole yr and I averaged 100 tfp a month. Some more some less, by my own doing. With the new reserve pay rules it won't be hard at all to do 105+tfp without trying to pick up. I try to grab one 1 day trip from the company at 2nd yr pay a month to pad the check.

Thanks guys for the answers. I have a few more, but first just got a call today offering a feb 7th class date with wait lisiting the 24th. Do they ever send an email or letter with an official job offer? Or is it just the phone calls? Now my other questions...

1. How do buddy passes work? Accrual/actual usage

2. If you want to go international on another carrier are zed fairs available?

3. How many TFP do you guys average a month? I know it depends on the person but just wondering what to expect.

4. Since OAK is probably in my future, do most people get crash pads or are hotels affordable there?

5.How does jumpseating work? Priority? Can you reserve it?

Congrats, and welcome aboard!
Most other questions already answered, but to expand on #2, you're not eligible for ZED fares (and the FedEx 75% off discount) until 6 months after DOH... so don't go planning that international vacay too quickly. But the 6 months goes by fast...

Here's a question for ya:

So I logged into my SWA Pilot Creds like I do, well, nearly daily, and suddenly found two red Xs next to a couple of items. For about 7 months there have been green check marks, and now, without any changes from me, certain things just vanished and/or now there were unanswered questions.

I fixed it all, but has anyone else seen that before?

Seems like they just updated the wording of those questions. Read carefully folks.

I think they add/change questions from time to time to see who is paying attention and still interested.

All three airlines that use pilot credentials does it from time to time.
