Life at Spirit Under the TA - Boil it Down
Hi all,
I'm not working at Spirit, but there is a good chance I will have the opportunity to do so. I have been reading much of the back and forth regarding how TA will affect you all, but frankly without having the thing in front of me it's hard to boil it all down. Hopefully I don't fan the flames of discourse here, but I'd appreciate some insight. My main concerns are: 1) How many days off per month, on average? 2) How easy of hard will it be to drop trips, pick up trips, and change your schedule around? I'm not concerned about earning less then I possibly could. Thanks |
Do you actually know anyone at Spirit? If so, you should ask him or her. But here’s my answer: It is, and will continue to be, a good job in my opinion. Good people for the most part. Flexible schedule. The quality of life will be the same for most of us as it was before unless you were a person who dropped a bunch of reserve days to have the time off. It is a good move to come to Spirit, but if you are young you should still have apps in at the big 4.
Edit: 15-16 days off per month average |

7 years, never less than 15 days off. Maybe one or 2 reserve months I was awarded less, but didn't get used.
Given this is based of contract 2010... This may not be the case soon. The devil is in the details that we don't know yet (PBS). Conflict drops were a beautiful thing. You will probably hear the captains you fly with tell you all about them. The once great QOL that we gave up so the people with no dergee, no TPIC, criminal records, live WAY outside their means, 9 or less years left to retire, etc. could get a **** poor raise to make their problems easier to deal with... But hey, come on over! hahahaha! |
Reserve is running about 8 months right now, so 12 days off. From there, the lines vary from 13-16 off. Just depends. Reserve life will change drastically if the TA passes in a couple of days
|
Average Hardline in LAS is 14.5 days off, so PBS will be an improvement. ...
not sure if I should put /s or :( |

No, I don't know anyone at Spirit. I will be applying at the big 4 (app reviewed, will submit today) but I got the call from Spirit and like my chances.
Thanks |

Been here more than a year and very happy. Your going to hear some negative crap it’s just APC. I never got transition or did checkerboard reserve drops but there is a lot of flexibility to manipulate your schedule with the red green and ability to drop back to the company. I change my schedule every month. Good group of pilots and I have to say all the captains I’ve flown with have been very very sharp. You will enjoy it.
