New-Hire Flight Times

Good Morning all,

I’m wondering what are the average flight times of new hires? I know the website says a minimum of 2000TT with 1000 multi but I am curious what times pilots are actually getting on with.

BlueSideUp85 03-31-2018 02:03 AM

Just got hired, starting class next month.

5400TT
3950ME
850 Turbine PIC

Welcome to NK!

cf105 03-31-2018 05:30 AM

a good amount of colleagues at my regional got hired with TT ranging from 2,100 to 2,500 and less than 2 years of commercial aviation, while others got hired with north of 3,500TT including captains with high TTs.
Kind of all over the place.

Were they hired within the last two months or prior to the TA?

My class average was around 4000 TT. Some guys/gals had no PIC and some had a lot. Some had degrees a few did not. Most went to a job fair or meet and greet. That seems to be the best way to an interview. That being said, I am not sure when the next meet and greet is

I know regional FOs going with about 3k and no pic.

FNGFO 03-31-2018 07:58 AM

My class was all regional or fractional CA, probably 8-12,000 hours TT and lots of Turbine PIC. So it’s all over the place. They want qualified candidates, but, honestly, they seemed to have a pretty good sniffer for finding guys who fit the personality mold thy wanted.

So, having said that, I’d go to a job fair or meet and greet and get in front of the recruiting team.

In my poor opinion, since I got like 4 TBNT’s letters from Spirit already, I can say it don’t matter if you have a lot experience, thousands PIC hrs, master degrees, 10 LOR’s , international flight experience, speak 3 lenguajes, have attended 10 jobs fairs...nothing will help, you just need is to like them...that’s all. If they like you, the rest of your resume it doesn’t matter. While you are with them being interviewed, they will smile to you and maybe you were thinking.. oh ok I’m doing good!... but the reality will be after few days or at least a week, when you get the TBNT letter or maybe just crickets.... simple like that, no formula, no keys, no nothing.

Being literate helps too... Nice post though, good luck with unentitled positivity!

Does Spirit add the .2 or .3 per sortie for Mil guys?

Nope. Just straight time from the HARM printout.

I did both, and honestly they didn’t care.

No, got lucky with just applying I guess. No internal recs. No meet and greet. No job fairs.

Congrats and welcome aboard!

Know your flows cold day 1 and you'll be fine.

Thanks! I just got done putting together flashcards for all the bold COM chapter 3 limitations. Our welcome packet says there will be an assessment on limitations day 1 of class. Do you know if that assessment will be on just the bold limitations or should I be ready to test on the whole section?

You won't be asked anything about those for weeks. Your first knowledge checkpoint will be at the end of week 2, when you're expected to go through your flows once from each seat in 2 mock flights (showing up to the cold jet to completion of a flight) with minimal instructor help. Limitations and memory items are for your Oral which is around week 4/5. All that should matter for you now is having a general idea of your flows, and you can fine tune them with your partner after class, as there isn't much time to study/learn them from scratch once class gets started (the days are really long).

Good Luck.

How competitive is:

3300 Total
1000 Multi-Engine
1500 turbine PIC
750 Jet
480 Jet PIC ( >12,500lbs, 135 time)

No 121 time, mostly 135 time

You only need the bold for the oral. I imagine it’s enough for the assessment. Get familiar with the rest though.

My total time is the same as you but I have 1,000 121 time and over 2,000 ME and I haven’t heard anything for about 6 months.

Competitive enough to go to a real airline, not this Mickey Mouse operation!

Just curious how this is a Mickey Mouse operation?

Because this is APC and everyone is angry all the time.

Unfortunately it's not enough to get into a "real" airline. The best I could do is a regional, which I'd really prefer not to do. I feel Spirit would be a good fit. Flying is somewhat of a second career for me, so I'm not a super young guy (mid 30's). I wouldn't ever see a major airline until I was 40 or so. I feel if I could get into Spirit, I could bypass the regional game, and go straight into something that would hopefully end up being career stop.

99.9% of us are making it a career... but there are a few “special” ones at every group... our “mickey” ops are getting better everyday

Assuming everyone here is a pilot - no.
We have absolutely no input in the process.

I’m sure you’re a great guy/gal but why should Spirit settle for someone that can’t get on at other majors?
