Uniform pants

Where are you guys getting them?

I’ve always used the vendor pants but have never been satisfied with the fit. I’m tall and the crotch on these things still comes half way down my thigh. They are also pretty baggy. Hard to alter these things. I’m not overweight or over-slim. Just looking for something with a fit disigned for someone that’s not 50lbs overweight. Also not “skinny” pants. More like modern dad fit. Haha

The uniform fabric (wool/poly blend) seems ok as long as it’s dry cleaned and I’d like to stay with that or a higher wool ratio. I found pants at perry Ellis that had a decent fit and color match but were 100% poly which doesn’t breathe like wool and is shinny crap.

I was hoping the new uniform vendor would have new pants but they are the same Edwards pants we had before. I ordered the same size as my last set from the old vendor that still fits and the new ones were much tighter (waist). Same crappy cut.

Anyone found good pants?
Quality fabric
Modern but comfortable cut
Matches color.

I wear A Cut Above tapered (not slim) shirts and donate the vanhusen parachutes

Crew Outfitters in ATL; primarily a Delta vendor but they unofficially have our bars and color combo. Probably not convenient if you’re not in the area though. Quality stuff, holds a crease and tailoring by a guy that knows what he’s doing is included in all their uniform pieces.

Funny you say that. I have a pair of pants from Crew outfitters and they are the ones I like the most. Love the lined thighs. I bought them online though so they aren’t tailored and a bit “too comfortable”. I didn’t know they had a retail store and you could get pants tailored when you buy them. We overnight there a lot and I have family in the area we visit so it’s not out of the question to get them there. Where are they located and can they ship them to you after they do the tailoring?

gatorbird 06-05-2018 11:42 AM

Google them in Hapeville, GA; they recently moved but the address is the new one. Off of (near) Virginia Ave. Can’t say if they’ll ship but I’d bet they will; top-notch customer service so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Do they include tailoring with purchase?

I personally just order from crew outfitters and get them hemmed when I get them in the mail. Always works out well

I don’t know, sorry.

B200 Hawk 06-05-2018 01:09 PM

Not sure about exact color match with the new uniform jacket (if you wear leather it won't be an issue) but I have always had good luck with the "navy" pants from A Cut Above. Don't always have to dry clean and very comfortable. Little more $$$ than others, but so are the shirts.

I noticed their website now has a shot/regular/long rise option for the pants. That’s my biggest complaint with the vendor pants. The extra long rise. Probably just gonna lyft over on my next overnight and check them out. I loathe buying clothes online unless it’s somethingbive bought before.

I think they hem for free, but any further alterations cost money.

I used A Cut Above for my paints and had them tailored when they came in. Love them. My crew outfitter pants are relegated to emergency backups.

Why do you like a cut above pants better than Crew outfitters?

They just seem to be higher quality, fit better and are more durable in my opinion. Plus the crew outfitter pants have an elastic waistband that is set up wrong. It’s backwards to a design that would allow you to tuck the shirt in and back and keep it in place.

Which is the best color match, Navy or UAL Midnight Blue?

Go with the Navy, it's identical to our company issued pants. Midnight blue is closer to black.

Does anyone wear the company issued pants?
How is the quality of the new vendor pants?

PS: What's the point of a uniform allowance...
if the Spirit issued uniforms are such low quality that we are forced to buy our own?

New vendor pants same terrible Edwards pants. Was very disappointed when they showed up.

Wasn’t a high priority in negotiations my guess.

Unfortunately these are 100% polyester. I’m glad you like them I just have had bad experiences with that. Tends to have a shinny finish, sweaty eggs, and they tend to get beat up dry cleaning of washing. A wool blend seems best. That’s what most quality slacks tend to be made of. End of the day always do what works best for you.

FLYBOYMATTHEW 06-06-2018 08:22 AM

The company issued uniforms have always been movie theater usher quality. We shouldn't have to buy our own, and we shouldn't have to negotiate for reasonable uniforms, but this is how our management views our position.

Isn't there supposedly new uniforms coming sometime soon? I have heard about this on the line after we recently switched to that new ( and terrible ) uniform provider.

Qotsaautopilot 06-06-2018 09:27 AM

That’s a new rumor to me but I’d be interested in knowing if it’s true

Sad but true statement, proven during negotiations.
WE on the other hand, should NOT allow them to propagate that hostile and disrespectful attitude.
Do WE do anything about that?

...My thoughts as I enter another flight deck with a temp over 74F...

I ordered the haggar navy cool 18 pro pant, and the color was way off with the blazer...way too light. Which one did you get?

Qotsaautopilot 10-04-2018 06:49 AM

We are switching back to Black in the near future.

I guess that’ll make color matching a little easier. It certainly won’t be a nice pair of paints

Cheif says company claims it’ll be better quality. I think he said early next year.

Finding this blue in a quality pair is almost impossible. Black should be much easier

lowandslow 10-04-2018 09:41 AM

A cut above, crew outfitters, and m&h are all better than the company options. All make dark navy. Now you can't use your Kohl's card for them but they are out there.

Qotsaautopilot 10-04-2018 10:07 AM

Did try the cut above pants. I only wear their shirts but didn’t like the material on the pants. Been waiting for a short Atl to visit the Crew outfitters store but I’m just gonna ride the company pants I hate until we switch over now

flensr 10-04-2018 09:47 PM

Macys has a decent cotton/poly blend that is a VERY close color match to the official zip-tie and doesn't "shine" too much (ie. not obviously cheap poly). It has a comfort-fit waistband and is usually on sale for a reasonable price. Wash and wear, I wore a few pairs for over a year and they never needed pressing, just wash, throw in the dryer until *almost dry*, and hang up. After a year and a half they still looked fine. My only complaint was if I forgot to use a fabric softener sheet, the static cling could be irritating.

Cotton is for casual Friday not a pair of nice pants. Wool

Haha. I agreee. However saying that to a group that rocks dockers, golf “quick dry” pants, and Billabong chinos. I had a 2 year FO of ours try to tell me his black pants were ok because you couldn’t even tell they were black. Guess what, yes you can easily.

There is a reason why we continue to be told to dress like grown ups from union emails, because we have too many that don’t.

I’m not trying to get into another forum uniform thread, it’s a lost cause. But it’s clear we have a large percentage of guys who will never get “it,” no matter what color our uniform changes to.

We will switch to black and guys will still wear their blue pants because “I paid for them.” Anyone want to take a bet this won’t be the case?

I bet they are also the same guys I see doing walk arounds while talking on their phones...

But yeah I saw a guy last week wearing a BLACK North Face jacket with his NAVY pants. Dude! You are not at your regional anymore...look like a professional. Or even better, I saw an FO with BRIGHT blue pants on. Haha

FNGFO 10-05-2018 11:24 AM

You know, sometimes the black North Face jacket is the only option while a new FO waits on his uniform jacket to come in or get fitted.

It took several months for me since I ordered mine just as switched to HP and M&H couldn’t figure it out. I spent about as much getting the jacket fitted as on the jacket.

So it’s not always a slob trying to get away with wearing what he wants.

Skypilotsv1984 10-05-2018 12:02 PM

Incentex sent me the wrong size blazer twice, the second time I sent it back they just cancelled my order. I don’t have a blazer. It’s not necessarily the pilot, it’s the terrible uniform companies they use.

True, that is a good point. I guess you have to give them a pass if your in doubt
