Unacceptable behavior

Really. This guy acts like only the FO’s are texting and using the cell phone. I got to say as someone who isn’t much of a cell phone guy it kind of went up my a$$.
Jesus I would guess conservatively that 50% of the capitones I’ve flown with are buried in there phones during the preflight.
Okay I feel better had to vent. Hate the righteous attitude.

Tranquility 06-08-2018 04:35 PM

I believe the he was actually a she who reported it....

Probably the same she that almost took out the ramp in ORD.

Not everyone's CA experience is meant to last, that's why it didn't.

DickBurns 06-08-2018 05:05 PM

Is it that difficult to be a Captain and handle it? That ASAP makes the individual that wrote it look like they can't manage their cockpit.

I think the person you are talking about made it back to the left seat.

I don’t think using the phone during preflight was the issue. I think the line was drawn between checklist. I have personally had to ask a pilot to put the phone down while I was taxing. Never thought I would ever have to do that. ???

Good for you, but is it representative of the entire pilot group and worth a letter to the FAA? This captain is an embarrassment to our pilot group; should have simply notified a rep with the concern and kept the issue internal.

Yeah. Going to the FAA is a pitch in the dirt. Should be kept in house.

But........ I understand the frustration these days. I used to go to work to get away from my kids.

TCASTESTOK 06-10-2018 09:12 AM

Whenever I fly, I always hop in, get situated, then call sterile cockpit phones off and before start checklist.

astral 06-10-2018 11:18 AM

This is a prime example of what NOT to do as a CA.
This "CA" has no CA authority characteristics, values or knowledge.
Did pro standards call this "CA" in?
Please tell me it's MR, one of them is more than enough!

TCASTESTOK 06-10-2018 11:42 AM

I wonder how this CA didn't learn anything during his upgrade class.

Tjamaica 06-10-2018 04:12 PM

What is this thread even about??

Have you checked your email from Spirit's ALPA?

squawkoff 06-10-2018 06:25 PM

Some airlines have a “PED”........Off on the checklist. Personal electronic devices.

How much you want to bet that that will be in our future.

Even though i'm a lowly part 91er, I still uphold the same standards of safety and professionalism my piper as you do in your airbus.

I had to ask a Captain the same thing while they were taxing. It's a big problem within our ranks and our society in general. IIRC our FOM says off prior to before STARTING ENGINES checklist and until after PARKING. It should be honored unless CS or MOC needs to be involved.

Have you applied? Lets put you through our Airbus training and then let's see what you think. No one understands unless you actually experience the 4 sims "fire hose" training,

Then let me be the first to say the required memory items for the NEO engine temps changed yesterday. When I was an FO I had a Captain say "you have the controls and ATC, Taxi for me that's my kids and they are home alone." The phone was ringing. Ouch!!

Had a similar thing happen at B6 this week. CA asked me to taxi from the right seat so he could eat his salad during a long taxi out. Then he made a call (between bites).

Handled poorly but you’d hate to wonder on a 3hr Flight if it was an emergency.

That must be a read file you are talking about. I was saying it was hit or miss whether or not I get the ALPA fast read type emails for some reason. I can't be the only one. Thanks though, I'll check Comply before heading back to work. Also, LOL to that captain:)

NEO temps are now 1083 for both start and TOGA.

Why is everyone fueling the fire of this ASAP nonsense by posting the details of times they were involved with, or witnessed, something that shouldn’t have happened. Are we hoping for a more thorough audit by the faa?

It's everywhere. My friends at JB tell how the company tells them not to surf the web during flight. Same at SWA! AA friends claim they watch movies via the wireless network. It's not just NK, it's everywhere!

What are you talking about? Despite the fact that we have free internet, I stare mindlessly out the window on a BOS-SFO redeye at a block of 7:10. Of course company policy precludes me from reading materials so, just mindlessly staring. :D
