10/5 New Hire class

10/5/18 new hire classmates, congrats! What was your interview date?

Mine was 8/03

If you're in the ATL area, drop me a PM !

busdriver100 09-14-2018 09:00 AM

My bad,
I meant 11/05/18 new hire class...what was your interview date?

Mine was 8/3/18. PM if you happen to be around the ATL area and want to start working on flows, etc.

Didn't you post this ad on craigslist also?

I'm convinced that nobody has gotten a call, let alone an interview, since before the first week of August. Seems like its been really quiet on the hiring front on all of the networks that I've been lurking around.

Deathwish 09-14-2018 09:08 PM

Interviews are happening and job offers extended, but most are currently going into a pool with class dates at the start of 2019.

There have been a bunch of nervous looking dudes in suits hanging out at the Learnatarium the last three Fridays.

Tikiflight 09-15-2018 02:55 PM

I also interviewed on 8/3 and was offered the 11/5 class. See you down there!

Nov is a good time to be down in FLL! We are running 10 new hires every week. 40 a month. Someone is getting hired. Pumping the FO numbers so they can bump the Capt numbers. ;)

UltraMaan 09-16-2018 07:36 AM

I interviewed on 8/10 and got a callback a few weeks later with an offer. I haven't heard anything since. I am hoping for a November 20th class date.

evanss9550 09-16-2018 04:50 PM

The OBAP job fair was around 8/15. Nobody has come forward on any of the other forums about any calls that have gone out since after the job fair. I wonder if they are trying to get through a bunch of applicants and interviews that came through post contract but prior to the job fair? I had always been told that attending a "meet the chiefs" event was major bonus points towards getting a call, and not a single person that attended OBAP has come forward about one yet.

maybe they don't use the forums.

Super EZ E 09-16-2018 05:24 PM

Their is a chance no one was hired from the job fair. The new contract has solved a lot of hiring issues. Things have clearly changed. Funny how a new contract fixed a lot of hiring and staffing issues.

I asked this question on another thread that I created, but it was hijacked by everyone talking about training difficulty...If I have been passed up at this point, what should I do to become more competitive:

Part 135 PIC or Part 121 SIC? I'm currently PIC in a Challenger, Part 91 and not adding to the logbook very fast.

3370 TT
1780 TPIC
3 Types
Degree is in progress and will be done by May 19

If I have realistic goals in the airlines, I'm going to have to make a change in the near future. Thoughts?

Honestly nothing glares out as not competitive to me. We hire plenty of no degree, no 135, no 121. Only thing I'm not sure about is all 3 boxes unchecked. Many newer hires I fly with were regional FOs for up to a couple years and some don't have degrees. We have hired quite a few 91k people in the last year (though they also fly 135). Your decision will have to be yours. Nobody can tell you to leave a good corporate job to fly crappy charter or for a regional to which you may have to commute. You could get stuck there. Probably the reason you're not getting the answer you're looking for. There are a lot of (overly?) qualified people with job fairs and recs not getting interviews.

I'll chime in on this as well just as a pure opinion standpoint. Finish that degree, get that TT up to maybe 4k and you will be good to go for sure. At this point I don't think I would bother with the 121 stuff other than going to a major airline. Avoid the regionals at all costs. After that degree is done hit a job fair every once in a while and you will be looking good man!

Feels that way. Thought hiring would really ramp up after summer, but at least on APC it's been crickets.

Tjamaica 10-02-2018 11:00 AM

There might be a small number of people in the hiring pool due to smaller classes through August. Hiring is ramped back up to 40 a month right now. Hang in there, I'd guess they should be getting to you guys soon

Super EZ E 10-02-2018 11:59 AM

I don't think your info about 40 a month is good. Try 10 in Dec. We're fat on crews till these Aircraft show up. The last vacancy bid was showing 28 FO's. Showing 10,10, and 8. Only 6 Captains.

40 for August. 40 for September. 28 for October. 13 airplanes coming 4Q '18-1Q'19. Thats what I see. Do you have more info?

Qotsaautopilot 10-02-2018 12:43 PM

Total guess but with pbs only a few months out I’d say hiring is or will slow for the smaller staffing requirement

Super EZ E 10-02-2018 04:09 PM

I talked to my guys in training, I guess last year we had a hard time getting guys so for some reason they thought the same for this year and the class sizes are down. It only makes sense in Spirit world. New flash the contract was an issue during hiring. I guess we are fat on pilots as of now so the rest of the year is going to be slow. I know the reserve guys are only flying about 30% of the time. Me personally it's like not having a job!! :D

Tjamaica 10-02-2018 05:05 PM

Makes sense, the grid is solid green and has been for awhile

Eh, only green for 2 months now on the FO side. That said we have 12? airplanes coming in the next 6 months so i imagine hiring will pick back up over winter or spring.

We've lowered October from 40 to 30 new hires. That could drop again. November will be 10 and as of now 0 for December. I've heard the number for January but can remember what it was so I won't post about it until I get confirmation again.

We are overstaffed and yes last years December classes were a nightmare trying to fill them. We had about half of the guys we wanted/needed. It also sounds like PBS might be influencing future numbers. No need to panic though, the sky isn't falling. Not until we furlough 125, park 7 planes and stop honoring the 4/5 day off language. Sorry, my PTSD just kicked in.

Super EZ E 10-03-2018 10:57 AM

I was told 10 but who knows. It's starting to look like Spirit has the company staffed correctly for the moment. I'm sure that will all fall apart...

Anybody have a crystal ball for late 2019/early 2020 hiring ?

For guys trying to plan out a year to 1.5 years from now, to plan on deciding is Spirit as good as Envoy?

Sorry, my crystal ball says “Best go to the Regional”

Sorry man but dont expect the average looking girl to want to go to prom with you after you announced she is your 3rd option after the prom queen and cheerleader.

Mine says for you to go to Envoy. As far as Spirit, we will take delivery of airplanes from the current order.

Yup, heard a rumor today from a very senior guy that has been correct so far. Another 200 Airbus order announced shortly. Who knows...

200 would be a pretty amazing number. If so, the announcement will come in January after the changing of the guard.

In the last earnings call they told the investors that it would be before the end of the year.

Where are 200 Airbuses coming from?! Surely not brand new.

Boeing has made a 3/2 bid to flip NK from the Bus to the 737. You can bet your powered seat butt that Airbus will 'find' 200 Airbi.

As I understand we found 12 planes that were from deferred orders or defunct airlines. I know the extra NEOs coming were from a Chinese airline that went under. So 2 of our chiefs are in France right now taking the extra time to get them setup for us. So I'd assume we'll take whatever we can get until new planes can come.

“Taking the extra time”

Code for “more escargot and champagne, and send the check to Airbus Industries”

elmetal 10-04-2018 06:29 AM

Let's not forget Norwegian wants to sell 90 of their orders before the ends of this year as well...

As long as it’s the A320 series and not the 220’s I’d be cool with that...
