Even if you don’t get an interview, it will at least show persistence. There are a lot of well qualified candidates who haven’t gotten a phone call, so anything extra you can do will certainly help.

Applied to Spirit but got the no thanks email. I’m just shy of the 3,000 TT maybe that was why. Has anyone gone to a MTC event even though their application was denied?

I'd probably wait till you have the time and go to a MTC after 6 months wait period with a fresh resume.

Just emailed to try and get an invite to a meet the chiefs event and was told to wait until at least 2500 hours. I wanted to respond that a majority of my time is fighters but didn’t want to make a big deal of it. My app still says under review, surprised I haven’t seen a TBNT based off the response for the meet the chiefs email. It would be hilarious if I got an interview invite after getting turned down to meet the chiefs!

Thanks for your military service sir. I'm confident you'll get picked up soon by a major. It's a shame it may not be us. We really ought to have a flight time conversion for military.

I'm no expert, but to fly fighters you generally have a Master's degree and a helluva GPA to get that slot? Shame that doesn't count for extra credit on our scale. Not to mention the training and team building and life experience you get from your years of military service.

Good luck to you!

Also in hindsight, a well worded polite email, pointing out that most of your time is military fighter, may be worth it. If you write it with the correct tone, I don't see how it could hurt you, and it sure as heck might help you if Spirit is your first choice. Just my opinion, others may have better insight into the hiring process.

Also don't put too much faith in that app still being under review message. Despite all the griping on APC from the angriest 10%, most of us are pretty happy at Spirit. But the one gripe about Spirit that can't be denied, our IT department is awful!

I don't think it would hurt to reply and ask if there's a conversion factor for military (fighter) time. There's a good chance whoever responded is just skimming the emails looking at total time.

You guys are absolutely right, it never hurts to ask (respectfully of course). Plus I can report back if I get a response for other military guys and gals looking at Spirit.

it is generally accepted to add .3 per sortie we fly because the military doesn’t start counting till T/O to LDG. I did that for my flight times and Spirit had no issues with it. Goodluck!

It never hurts to ask! The recruiter had the hiring panel take a look at my app and was able to get me a Meet the Chiefs invite. Unfortunately I'll be unable to attend since my flight schedule just got changed and its smack dab in the middle of a mil exercise week.

I was very impressed with how quick and professional the responses were and the fact I got a response at all.

The hiring panel informed the recruiter that I had enough multi-engine TPIC (fighter, ~1250) to receive an invite. So for any mil guys that are low on TT - Don't let that keep you from trying to go to Spirit!
