Why don’t airport bathroom stalls open out?!
 

How am I supposed to shimmy my bag ain there and get the door shut without touching all kinds of stuff including the toilet.

The real question is why don't they have one of those little occupied/unoccupied signs when the door is open or locked.

Why do most doors to the bathroom require you to pull instead of push when leaving?

I wash my hands, but I see about 33% of people do not. How many dingers have I touched thru the handle to leave a bathroom.

When the captain tells me to put my face in his lap...I DO.

Our personal observations tally 100%. 1/3 of dudes don't wash their hands. Total disregard of their fellow humans. They'll then proceed to shake hands, grab a milk jug from Starbucks, open a door, touch a screen.

Along with driving with highbeams on at all times and having conversations on speakerphone in public, this is evidence in the total decline in civility.

And yes, there should not be a requirement to grab a doorhandle to exit a public restroom.

Forward lav...... the source of at least 90% of our fume events.

If you gave up on the bean burritos those would get less frequent.

Can’t remember where I was (KIND?) but on a turn I got a case of the meat sweats pretty bad and Quasimodo-walked into ****ter with haste. The stalls were extra deep and allowed one to fully enter with rollaboard in tow, make a comfortable 180, and get bidness dun. Best part was, if you’re a “forward thinker”, your forehead has no chance of making contact with the handle of your bag. As pleasurable an experience it was, you’d think I’d remember such a glorious commode.

With people’s general lack of SA, they’d throw the doors open without checking to see if there was anyone on the other side (like they do on airplane lavs) and mayhem would ensue! :rolleyes:

DTW has good stalls. The doors go almost all the way to the floor and gives you a little sense of privacy. Not sure why in the states we insist on having giant gaps around our public stalls. Certain terminals in ATL have lights above the stalls to indicate whether they are occupied or not, thought that was cool. Although the best is finding a good out of the way family restroom if you’re looking to do some serious business.

The parts of the terminal that need the most ventilation have the least.

STL C-gates do. And yes, just cracked someone with the door getting out.

Every airport has it's hidden Costanza private bathroom just gotta find it :D

On the rare occasion that I have too poop at work, I'm that guy who uses the Family restroom if it's available. While I haven't been yelled at yet, my logic is simple. My bag assembly simply doesn't fit in the regular bathroom stalls, as noted above. I'm sorry to the diaper changing mom waiting outside, but that's just how it is.

This. All day long. I always use the family ones. As a poster above, I’m a pro at finding the quite/private bathrooms lol.

I prefer no bathroom stalls. So if you make loud noises, everyone is watching you.

Two funny things. ^^^ This post cracked me up and the ad for a specialized bathroom product "Toto Washlet" appearing on this page. I can't believe this thread turned into one about poop...oh wait, yes I can.

In many cases, I’ll slip outside security and blow up the bathrooms in baggage claim or up in some 3rd level obscure loge/office level floor outside security... squirt in peace and KCM my happy ass right back into the terminal.

This method works great for the Starbucks line too! Post-poo of course.

MCI - worst bathroom situation in CONUS. Four stalls to service 15 gates. Genius. I love the bathroom that you have to cut through the Starbucks line to wait outside in line to wait inside in line to find a giant pile of poo clogged in one stall and the other one occupied by a little kid grunting at the top of his lungs. There is invariably pee all over the floor within 4 feet of any urinal or stall and no room to even turn around. Forget bringing your bag in there.

So true. I hate going to a restaurant and seeing one of the cooks leave the stall after dropping a stinky load and then head to the kitchen without washing his hands. So many places I don’t go to after seeing that.

At least the KCMO voters approved an entirely new conventional design terminal to replace everything. In design phase. To be opened in 3 years or so. Keep your fingers crossed.

The current 3 horseshoe shaped terminals were built before any security screening existed. It is too narrow to have groups of screening and a wide area for people to walk, adequate restrooms, places to eat, etc. like DFW. TWA wanted them to fix it, they didn’t, so TWA moved its hub to STL. It left MCI with Braniff as a hub. Braniff went out of business. So, no hub. Southwest has grown to be the largest carrier at MCI. It had finally got so painful the airlines and the city decided to do something about it. . .after 50 years.

Vegas has some deep stalls, works great for your roller bags. Go to the C or A gates if you want some peace and quiet after about 10PM.

Too bad you missed MKC, a real treasure. I believe the poopatorium was built over the river.:eek

Yeah, Lewis & Clark were in kind of a hurry, but it was beefed up later for the Oregon Trail traffic. :D

I remember as a kid seeing my great aunt off at MKC. Those Connies were so cool. Like landing in a tea cup. Briarcliff on the north end and just to the east of the south end, a mile away was downtown with 30 story buildings.

The old TWA overhaul base was across the river at the Fairfax airport (it is no more) in Kansas City, Kansas. July 1951 the great Kaw River flood backed up the Missouri River. Fairfax was completely under water.

They decided to build a runway and overhaul base at what is now MCI. It was opened for overhaul in 1956. Then the passenger service and terminals were built and opened in 1972. At that time MKC became GA.

The other issue I do notice is that as you sit down the Automatic Flush turns on spraying your back side with lots of water and who knows what else. Then when your done the stupid thing will not even attempt to flush.

Most of the time I can find the button to manually flush but in Vegas, in the A Gates, I can't seem to find the manual flush function.

Pro tip grab a piece of TP (have to get it a bit wet) and stick it to the sensor. It will never spray again. Remember to remove though when you leave.
