Everything that we do when exercising our seniority is self-centered. Every pilot will bid what is best and attainable for them with no regard for those junior to them. That's how seniority works. We don't begrudge those senior to us nor do we fail to exercise our own for those junior. Wanting to improve the QOL for all of those on the list is not self-centered. If you read my reply you'd see that I addressed diluted QOL for junior Captain's and for First Officers. A rising tide lifts all boats but we need that tide in the same ocean.

Right. I agree. And you agree. Therefore we agree. I didn’t say it was wrong.

There isn't a commuter hotel benefit of any sort, is there?

How strict or lenient is the commuter policy? Symbian mentioned getting an OAL positive space to cover an x/y call, but would the normal commuter ever see that happen?

Nope. No commuter hotels.

What they’ll do for an x/y list trip I guess Kind of depends on how desperate they are. Right now I wouldn’t count on it often.

As for normal commutes they’ll typically work with you. During the winter apocalypse that ORD experiences this last year I tried to commute up there. My first try was about 18 hours before my rap. I was behind a crap ton of non revs and about 9 jumpseaters with priority. I called and told them the deal. 30 minutes later they bought me a ticket.

2 X list and a MUP trip, all in the last 3 moths, positive space, last week, late check in, nobody on R 19, missed the first 2 flights, didn't look good for my last option:"Just let us know if you get on".....

No repercussions if you list for 2 flights, if you don't make it, you don't make it, the money, I mean :)

Anyone on here commute to reserve in ACY? Got an interview coming up and looking at my options for each base out of BNA and ACY seems like it would be the hardest to get to. Seems like flying into PHL and driving an hour is almost the best option. Trying to plan out every scenario if I get an offer and this is the only one that concerns me. Thanks in advance for any advise!

At worse you’ll see ACY for 1 month and that 1 month you’ll likely have a relief line.

That's good to hear, thanks!

As said before, you will be there for a month only. And regarding the relief line you’re going to have there- you can drop all those flights and then pick up from a more comfortable base. I never did a flight from ACY..

Any for people like me who want to go to ACY and stay there, it's that fast to hold a line right now??

The junior FO line holder in ACY has been on property for about 45 minutes. It won't take long.

I don’t think it’s so fast if at all. The problem with ACY is all new FOs bid out as fast as they can. So there’s no real movement toward being a line holder. Just from observation the most junior FO( he lives local)in October’s bid package is a January 19 hire. Of course he’s on reserve. That said all more senior FOs live local or want to stay there. Therefore there’s not much progression towards holding a line since it’s a small base with a limited number of lines. But there’s also a lot of talk about closing ACY and opening BWI. Rumors, rumors, rumors...

Arliss 09-19-2019 06:23 AM

I could do BWI, it's about a 2.5 hour drive for me. But if I want a line fast, would it make for sense for me to maybe bid DTW then drop everything and pick up from ACY?

Just checked the OCT bid for DTW. The most junior line holder was hired 09/18. In ACY the most junior line holder is a 03/18 hire. Keep in mind that a lot of guys have been- are being hired since July ( 50 per month and starting next year 60 per month for the first quarter at least). So there’s going to be more movement of course.

There’s also not a lot of open time in ACY bc it’s so small so picking up may not be realistic. This isn’t regional rsv. Rsv isn’t that bad and sometimes desirable if you live in base. Just kick back in jersey and let it flow. As a commuter you strategy could work but then you wouldn’t be bidding ACY anyway

Arliss 09-19-2019 10:09 AM

Alright. For me the bigger deal in holding a line is financial.

PRRunner 09-19-2019 10:29 AM

I’m MCO reserve, live local and credit over 72 every month, so the financial thing is relative. You can list on x or y list and make some extra cash but don’t budget on it. Sitting rsv at home isn’t bad at all.

Dude, at least look at a bid packet before you start spreading bad info.

It will take a long time to get a line in ACY. Everyone here is to junior to upgrade so no movement except for new hires leaving. 1.25 years and still no line. I can go to FLL or DTW to get a line if I wanted it that bad.

Arliss 09-30-2019 04:39 PM

Alright. I might then bid DTW and just try to drop as much as I can and pick up open time/advertised from ACY. If I have to shlep to DTW once or twice a month, that's fine. When I get to second year pay I can bid back to ACY and just chill on reserve and make enough $$.

This assumes you could get a line in DTW which sounds like that would take over a year?, cause you can’t drop reserve right? Might as well just be reserve at home near ACY, instead of commuting to reserve.

Arliss 10-01-2019 10:56 AM

With the big new hiring push holding a line in most bases (except ACY, it sounds) probably won't take long (I would guess).

Little over a year for me. But they didnt hire much for over 9 months after my class. Now with 60+ new hires a month time to a line will come down dramatically! Might be just a few months on reserve.

MCDUmanipulator 10-01-2019 11:29 AM

I think reserve in FLL will soon drop to about 3 months.

Arliss 10-01-2019 11:38 AM

With all this new hiring, when will we see new routes and cities announced?

I think most of the growth in 2020 will be increasing frequency between city pairs

Arliss 10-01-2019 11:59 AM

Ok. Maybe also some new routes between existing cities. Some cities seem like they have room for more Spirit routes (Phoenix, San Juan, Oakland, etc.)
