So I wonder what the real reason for BNA is

Clearly time-wise a tornado is much less disruptive than days of anticipation from a hurricane. Tornados are also much more localized in nature. But after a big tornado moved through BNA last night it’s kind of hard to justify the move purely due to wx concerns. Seems like DTW would’ve been a better choice.

Hurricanes are a certainty tornados are pretty random and not as common in the East as in tornado alley. Hurricanes disrupt everything including your employees ability to get to work, both during after and while they prep. Don’t think this changes the logic. Also you have to go somewhere that costs are reasonable and employees are willing to live. Lots of other factors beyond wx.

I agree. They just had specifically mentioned wx as a determining factor. That part of the SE it’s very common to have tornadoes but yes much less disruptive than a hurricane if your facility is spared by the tornado.

DTW though is almost never crippled by weather and I’m sure office space would be cheap. Question is can you get a solid workforce that wants to be there and grow with you. I don’t know.

Either way BNA it is just ironic considering last nights storm.

I’m still surprised they didn’t just move it to DTW. No significant weather other than snow and I’m sure they’d be willing to give incentives

I still don't get BNA...it's not exactly exempt from adverse weather. Even in the winter, any kind of snow/ice mix and pretty much anywhere in the south just shuts down as people don't know how to handle it. Why not just move it all out west in the desert? Very attractive places to live in places like PHX and LAS.

Agreed, Vegas would have made far more sense. Inexpensive facilities, already a big Spirit City, and basically zero extreme weather.

If the OCC is moving to Maryland Farms in Brentwood/Franklin it is highly unlikely they would be directly hit by a tornado due to the immediate topography in that area.

Centrally located to the majority of the US population. Great spot for a short haul connect hub:

Nashville is less than 1 day's drive from over 80% of the US population.

It made absolutely no sense. Detroit was already the backup OCC during hurricanes so you already had ample space for all of this.

Even if you needed more, there is plenty of cheap office space in and around Detroit.

The only thing I can think of is, given the, apparent, success of BWI, they see no reason BNA isn’t going to blow up and compete with WN there.

Time will tell. As of current day BNA is still very minimal for us.

OCC doesn’t even have to be anywhere we fly. It’s a bunch of folks in an office with computers and phones. They just made it sound like it was bc of wx. Obviously other factors at play.

DrSteveBrule 03-03-2020 10:17 PM

BNA is about 7 million potential originating customers short of competing with BWI. Let's get real with the BNA stuff. Office jobs have nothing to do with 'hubs'.
