you clean the effin carpet? What kind of weirdo are you?

I’m just picturing the scenes from Gattaca of cleaning out the keyboard.

In Mexico, you can ask the person with backpack vacuum to give it a once over. Makes you realize how filthy it really is...

Ok, so to me it sounds like you’re in the .00001% of pilots that think a clean cockpit is what you’re describing. The rest of us just clean up our trash and leave the cockpit tidy for the next crew.

One who doesn’t enjoy sitting in others’ filth.

Always a good strategy.


Tidy meaning covered in dirt, grime and crumbs on the floor?

It takes very little effort to maintain some semblance of relative cleanliness in our workspace. People would look at you, rightfully so, as a psycho if you tolerated that kind of mess and any other part of your life.

Give it a try. Actually wipe up that coffee you spilled on the pedestal or sidewalk. Maybe wipe down a panel. Get crazy and ask someone to clean the carpet or, perish the thought, do it yourself.

A clean and professional work space goes a bit beyond “ we picked up our paperwork before we left”.

If there are no means available then so be it. That’s rarely the case.

I get what you’re saying and that’s great and all, but seriously, how do you clean the carpet yourself?

There’s usually some form of vacuum cleaner available. Either one someone will use or one you can use yourself. A broom will get the worst of it that’s at least visible to the public and crew. The crumb buster is...essentially useless. In another life I wrapped my hand in tape as a redneck Dustbuster.

Sometimes there isn’t time. Sometimes there isn't equipment, or it’s defective or defunct. Sometimes the mess is beyond all reasonable means of cleaning. There are ways to have that remedied. Just do what you can which is almost always more than nothing.

I know all of us would be ****ed and on the phone if we found our hotel rooms covered in grit and the floors awash in crumbs and trash. “But we picked up the dirty towels and made the beds...” wouldn’t be an acceptable response from the manager. A ride share would get a poor review as would most restaurants. Most of us wouldn’t dare show our vehicle or residence in such a condition on a date or even to family. I don’t know why it’s considered acceptable on a professional flight deck.

So so I do what I can. I wish more would.

You dont bust crumbs?

Before your time but about 5 years ago someone decided to put a hand broom and dust pan in the cockpits and it was labeled "crumb buster" by the company. I always wondered who the heck would use the thing, I guess FNGFO does...Good on him...just not something im doing

I respect that. I’ll continue to clean up after myself but not going this far. But 100% respect your hustle.
