You’re quite right that parts of our contract are laughable at best. But ask around. The “out of the company’s control” language is pretty standard even at the legacies.

To be accurate you only accrue longevity for a year. If you’re out longer than that you’ll have an adjusted longevity date.

But coming back on year 2 pay isn’t terrible.

How in the He#^%^ did your contract contain that provision. Absolutely substandard. Almost all other carriers get longevity over furlough that only stops if you bypass return.

I've been furloughed before (not from here). No they don't. Senioirty yes, longevity no.

I would be shocked if this is true.

When I was furloughed I got no longevity. Actually got to come back at a lower pay rate than before bc the paycuts sold as furlough mitigation actually solved nothing. Got furloughed anyway, zero longevity accrual while out, and came back at lower pay than I left.

united didn’t have longevity accrual on furlough as I remember and I think it was negotiated as part of the merger to give the furloughees full longevity credit when they got recalled.
