Spirits position in South America

With Avianca going bankrupt (see link below) and maybe more South American airlines going bust without any government bailout seems like Spirit will be better positioned to take on more flying down there when this fiasco is over with. A lot of US carriers are even planning on being smaller sized so that would seem to help us out even more. Thoughts?

Thoughts? There’s no way that NK isn’t getting bought or at the very least merging with F9 or JBA. You guys were kicking too much a$$ to not have a target on your back on the other side of this. That’s ultimately a compliment, btw.

F9 over JBblue please

Years ago, Dave Barger had JetBlue’s slogan as “airline of the America’s’” and made a big deal on the placement of the apostrophe. The “plan” was to grow into central and South America to be one of the largest north/south carriers. Problem was that about 6 months later Neelman launched 330s to FLL and JFK.

What that looks like next year 🤷🏼‍♂️

It was my understanding that Spirit adopted a poison pill to prevent that very thing. Merger on Spirits terms... maybe.

My understanding of the ‘poison pill’ was that it was more to protect Spirit from a hostile buyout, not necessarily a merger.

Many analysts see mergers after this, time will tell who. Now that the govt is a stakeholder in many of of our companies, I wonder if they will allow more mergers to not chance their shares being wiped out?

☝️
simply to protect against bad actors taking advantage of the suppressed stock value.

How do you think a merger works? The term sounds very amicable, but one company has to buy the other.

Our management cannot make a merger deal without consent of the shareholders who own the company.

If the shareholders do not vote in a majority for a merger (basically selling out their shares at the offered price) then no merger. The way to ensure a majority is an aggressive purchase of enough shares to ensure a yes vote, otherwise known as....

My opinion:

JetBlue/Spirit merger more likely than any other company/Spirit.

plus proxemics, large employee presence in Florida, Caribbean/Latin route duplicity, etc. favor it.
