Places To Live MCO/FLL
Wife and I are giving some serious thought to the idea of moving to one of our bases, with her and I both leaning more towards Florida. Obviously this leaves us with two bases, MCO and FLL, but my question for those that live there is locations/towns/areas that are popular among our pilots.
Currently an FO, so if you have options that change based on income, lets keep that in mind, however I would love to also hear about spots that a slightly higher CA pay scale might afford. Our kids are older and out of the house now, so we have that going for us.
I dont mind a 2 hour drive, so that is kind of my limit in terms of distance from base. I have heard the west coast area like Tampa Bay/Sarasota are doable, but would also like some ideas on the east coast.
Any help or ideas, personal experience etc would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hard to give advise! Florida is so versatile. The question to be asked would be what do y’all like to do? Have kids? Need good public schools? Into water sports? To many variables and or crowds you may want to be around and or avoid.

Won't go wrong in Florida... Born and raised... MCO based twice... 1+30 drive from MCO gives you ALL sorts of options... Easy drive to east coast Cape Canaveral/ Cocoa Beach... South to the country side... Good hunting and fishing... No state income tax... Fair priced housing... Single free standing home or Condo what ever fits... Being you say the kids are grown makes it easy not having to worry about schools... MCO you won't go wrong... Just my 10 yen...

I’m not spirit (yet) but am hoping to get hired with MCO. I live in the Viera area over by Cocoa/Melbourne. It’s a great area but house prices are really on the rise. I have about a 40 minute drive to the airport. Lots to do around here, I just need to get a golf cart to really fit in with everyone

A lot of pilots live in the Merritt island, cocoa beach, Melbourne area. I’ve heard Mt. Dora is also nice and I’m sure there are plenty of areas in the city of Orlando that are decent. Just depends on what you want. Do you want the nice big new home or do you want to live near the beach? Would you prefer something small and walkable to restaurants and bars, maybe a fixer upper? How much money do you want to spend? Too many variables to answer this.
Not sure about SoFlo.

There are a couple places that are nice in SFL. Boca Jupiter off the top of my head. Everywhere else you either want to be a young partier or moving in from Latin America. Couple places on the SW coast fit the 2hr drive criteria to FLL.

Thank you for all the great replies, we will start checking them out. If it helps, we like the idea of being able to walk to restaurants, stores etc but are not married to that idea. Would also eventually like to have a house that has access to the intracoastal, but again, not a deal breaker.
Regardless, much appreciative for all the info and should be a great starting point for us to start looking.

How are the schools in the Melbourne, cocoa, vero beach area? Is there anywhere on the space/ treasure coast better to look at? The mrs and I are planning a move to base in a couple years and will have kids that will need a good elementary- high school.
