Yup, good old Barbara Boxer attacked in Jack London Square yesterday. Weed stores next to police stations, mountains of homeless all over the Bay area, smells worse than a Spirit lav on a Haiti turn.

Ironic? Maybe expected. Only what 10 of us have been saying on here the last week while a few was praising the virtues of Oakland and the fabulous trails by the lake

I was saying there is plenty of stuff to do. I was just there for 30 hours and went down to Jack London Square at about this same time and didn’t feel unsafe at all. But whatever it’s a big city. It certainly isn’t the safest place you could be but I’m not going to sit couped up in my hotel room for 30 hours because of it. |

OAK layover (be careful)
Jack London square is basically one of the safest parts of the city. So is Lake Merritt. |

I wouldn’t know. I haven’t opined on the topic. Just thought I’d throw some google stats out there, as people were getting emotional. (Not you)
That’s what the data you linked was showing. Just agreeing with the data. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I sincerely thank you for your Oakland overnight safety tip but I’m a healthy young person and I trust myself to fight off an attack. Chances are I will survive and be just fine. If god says it’s my day, then it’s my day, so I don’t worry about crime. Go about your life and stop being so afraid.

If you want good restaurants in a walkable, safe, close area.. try Alameda. As for Oakland, A's games are safe, Jack London is safe, Lake Meritt is safe. Stay on main roads, use common sense, don't stay out past 11pm. Also consider nearby Emeryville for outdoor mall, restaurants, good safe walking trail along bay.
Oakland also as a must check out jazz club/restaurant called Yoshi's. If you got time, definitely don't be afraid to go check out the town. |

Go and do the Billie Bean Moneyball tour at the Oakland Coliseum. Buy a rap CD, an Oaklandish hat, and a churro on the way in from BART. Then take your seat and take in the sights and sounds from an old stadium not worth the dynamite it would take to level it to the ground. See the great new players and be thankful you got to see America's #1 farm team for the Yankees in real life. Go check out the urine troughs in the bathroom and watch your step! When it's over, make sure you exit the game quickly because it will be seagull poop city in a matter of 5 minutes. On the way out grab a shirt from the guy who sold you the hat that says "everything I known about stealing I learned in Oakland." You'll look like a true local at that point.
When you're back at work,, tell other guy all about your day and how with just a few more tax dollars,, they could really clean up that stadium ;) |

Also recommend taking a dump in Mt Davis. Might as well use it for some reason. Someone’s property taxes are still paying for that lovely addition.

No one is suggesting that all cities don't have crimes, we're suggesting perhaps looking into acceptable alternatives that have *fewer* crimes. |

What part of ‘this has been going on in Oakland for a long time’ do you not get? it seems like you are the dense one here. |

After Jan. 6th one of our HQ guys just couldn't resist sending an email about the DHS "domestic terrorist" threat...
Funny though, with our ridiculously high Asian work group, not a single "be careful" email and we do all our layovers in the cities where all the Black on Asian crime was/is occurring. Go figure.... |
Wait, who was the one who posted a 14 year old article?
The original poster erased it Please tell me it was ExCargo 😆 |

The reporting must be wrong. They said one of the assailants had a gun with an extended magazine. Everyone knows California doesn't allow guns or extended magazines.
