Also not a lanyard guy but will sport this one for the negotiations.

At FedEx we have guys still wearing sports teams, colleges, military branches, even company-issued aircraft lanyards after nearly a year since our contract expired. I’m always disappointed how much of it I see walking through AOC. Hope your folks do better than ours.

Just for clarification, why don’t you like guys wearing (whatever lanyard they want besides the ALPA one) during peace time? Is there something you’d prefer them to wear?

And the first question?

MCDUmanipulator 10-13-2022 04:31 PM

Oh man I bet if we wear the lanyard we’ll get at least $100 more an hour.

For sure and the first words out of Bendo’s mouth after last AIP weren’t, “can you take off those damn red lanyards now?”

Your sarcasm is toxic and you’re sorely mistaken thinking that management doesn’t care about them.

I heard Ted counts the number of pilots not wearing ALPA lanyards and lowers the TA by X amount.

The fact that we are able to speak with a collective voice - on our company uniforms - is not something to take for granted. Those that came before us would risk their entire careers for less and it was worth it to them. It may just a piece of fabric but what's important is what it represents.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Why do you care what's on my lanyard during non-contract times? I wear my ALPA pin and tie and even have that thing on my ID that says "Spirit MEC." Isn't that enough? What's next? You gonna yell at me for having a sticker on my bag that says something other than ALPA?

Same reason we don’t wear north face jackets or wear backpacks. It’s not part of the uniform

To be fair though, seeing several peers walking through FLL T4 with backpacks (dual strapped no less) is kind of embarrassing. Looks pathetic.

Stuff like that starts from the top down. At the regional I was at, we got fitted for uniforms. At Sprit, we had a union guy come in during indoc and give us stuff that other pilots had donated. That kind of set the stage when we were all wondering if our rent check was going to clear, while trying to fade a medical bankruptcy during training.

I’ll bet they were wearing lanyards too. And had a north face each in said backpacks.

What's wrong with a black backpack?

Can your mommy pack your lunch and blanket in that backpack for work?

dualinput 10-17-2022 07:07 AM

Looks great as long as you don’t sling it onto your back like a child on their way to daycare. Of course if you’re doing that you probably have an NFL or NCAA lanyard and a north face jacket on as well in which case it’s a lost cause.

Something tells me you're the guy that brings his 26'' roller, cooler, leather flight kit all for a 5 hour Florida turn. I'm not lugging all that crap around when everything I need can fit in a backpack.

Or....or maybe he just packs his regular 22" with a change of clothes if he gets stuck. You really aren't "lugging all that crap" around on a day turn. Stop being dramatic. Backpacks are for hikers and school kids. Its really not that difficult, it really isn't. Sad we even have to tell people to not wear a backpack to work.

With a wife in the medical field, I’ve seen more Doctors at the hospital carrying a backpack than I’ve ever seen pilots carrying one. Those unprofessional idiots. Don’t they know only hikers and school kids carry those. Really, why does anyone care? With the amount of our guys wearing crap “uniforms”,there is no way some of you complaining about backpacks aren’t sporting north faces and tennis shoes.

Nope. Turns I bring an iPad bag with my essentials and snacks or lunch

Not sure if that’s in your FOM (backpack prohibition)… but if it is, it ain’t for too much longer.

Ah yes, but those same doctors wear pajamas to work too

Thanks for proving my point.
