JetBlue purchase of Spirt

With the news of JB agreeing to buy Spirit , how will that play out with working at spirit as a “new” junior pilot for anyone coming on board in the near future ?

today would likely be the “snapshot” date.

likely any new hire at either company after today will be integrated with DOH at the bottom of the combined list.

I understand seniority will be future DOH for the new hire, but any disadvantages for a new hire starting soon? Wonder if it's still a smart move to jump a ship from a regional.

It's proportionally all the same. You were joining one company at the bottom. You are now joining a future bigger company at the bottom, but both companies are hiring aggressively in parallel, and your date of hire will put you above all new hires from BOTH companies that are hired after you. No real change, other than you will eventually have a bigger stronger airline with more bases and a better future contract.

Is this contingent on a shareholder vote? I’m assuming it is like the Frontier deal….if so when is the date?

What he said! At the bottom there is no real difference in overall company percentile like we will see at the top and middle. There's no harm at all joining now at Spirit or jetBlue for that matter.

Yep, grab the earliest class date you can at either if you want the best seniority. If first year pay is a significant issue, choose the one that will help you pay your bills.

Yes, although that’s likely a done deal. DIJ approval is another issue but I doubt this is something DOJ really wants to get in a political fight about. JB is reasonably well connected politically. I imagine a few token concessions will be required.

The DOJ doesn’t really have a leg to stand on as they created the big 3. Who are they to deny a smaller carrier getting larger to compete with what they made.
