Also skywest has like a 4 or 5 month ioe wait time atm. Can’t just look at pay scale and assume that’s really achievable. It’s not the whole picture. Can’t say for sure what the picture is at every regional but skywest and rpa are both in the same situation where new hire fos just aren’t flying that much and barely doing 8 hrs a month. As a senior fo holding a line sure maybe but lack of crew means less line and it’s going to take months maybe even more than a year to hold a line to even make progress to build the time.

This is one of the biggest reasons for me leaving are you saying spirit is going through the same thing?

Heard Spirit is pretty heavy on CAs so FOs fly quite a lot.

It’s not that we are heavy on captains so much as that turnover affects the FO side more.

The company reduced summer flying so that they could have more pilots on reserve to absorb network disruptions. This has more or less worked on the captain side but attrition has affected the stability on the FO side.

Short term this has been good for new hires since the first of the year, as they have been able to move to the base and up in seniority towards a line much faster as other pilots leave. It’s also meant more open time and premium calls for FOs.

It’s affected senior FOs and junior captains negatively as upgrades slowed to a crawl. They are increasing again as we have twelve more planes coming from in Q4 and more next year. While training capacity has been almost all used for new hires, they have no choice but to increase captains.
