Is it even possible for the company to change the business model though?
I'm kinda half joking and half serious. Before the pandemic I actually believed that our economy was based off of free market capitalism, but honestly I'm not so sure anymore. At this point it seems that the government is able to meddle freely in anything and everything without pushback.
Like if Spirit decided to switch to a model akin to Southwest, does anyone else feel like the government could step in and force us to stay a ULCC?
I feel like Judge Young was hinting at it in a roundabout way. SPIRIT WILL FLY THE POORS AND THEY WILL LIKE IT!

what is this, North Korea?
the last thing we want is that level of centralized government meddling. Any such program would be an absolute disaster for this career. The more the government gets involved, the more they’ll dick it up.
The first thing they’d try to do in that scenario is lower pilot pay. The public won’t care about a bunch of rich dudes getting a haircut, and the government won’t care what the long term ramifications are.

Contrary to what anyone says, the free market economy is a shadow of its former self.

The government has been meddling for Lord knows how long... Mortgage interest deduction, student loan interest deduction, EV credits, solar credits, charitable donation deduction, capital loss write-offs.... The list goes on and on..... Barely anything in our economy stands on its own merits.
