Default Are We Heading for Another Captain Shortage?

With all these new routes announced for 2025, a consistently lowering forecast for AOG, we seem to be showing signs of growth after emerging from bankruptcy.

Current High attrition and a shrinking captain pool makes me speculate if another captain shortage is on the horizon before the summer rush.

Could we see more captain upgrades, recalls (if any pilots return at all), or even fresh hiring? Based on some quick math, it looks like there could be a situation which we, could need to restart new hires again by late 2025 if attrition stays at historical averages, unless there’s a change in fleet again.

What’s everyone hearing

Really hearing nothing. Other than - dont expect things to get better for another 12-18 months at least. Which makes sense. Common sense would tell one that, when a corporation is in a state of needing to minimize expenses, doing the absolute most with the absolute least is the ideal scenario.

So in other words - when you see the X/Y back in full force across all bases, you know they are starting to reach that point of thinking about staffing. Spirit is no where near that though.

we brought a few planes back but don’t be fooled by the news…

Most of the time whenever Spirit announced a new route it’s because an unprofitable one was cut.

Only my opinion, if the airline ends up relying on premium trips to cover day to day operations, they could already be well behind the eight ball.

I think we’ll need captain upgrades soon, eventually triggering more FOs. The uncertainty if any or maybe 50 of the furloughed pilots will come back. And Hiring typically takes 3 to 4 months.

You didn't see the news with the new routes?

DEEEEETROIT is making a comeback baby!

Word on the street is that they're trying to get Eminem to make a new marketing ad in front of the mx hanger in light of the new routes and the company's emergence from ch11.

I heard it was Journey!

”Born and raised in South Detroit

He took the midnight flight going anywhere….

A college boy in a pungent plane

A smell of Buzballz and cheap cheese trays.

For a small fee they can share the row

The nickel and diming goes on and on and on and on…”
