Hello all
Since I haven't worked for Sun Country I'm not too familiar with the culture but I am attracted to the type rating. I have the decision to work for Sun Country but was also offered a position to fly part 135 charter that is 6 year Captain pay at Sun Country. Should I take sunny for the type and 121 and wait for another major or wait it out in part135 and make good money?! I don't want to miss out on 121 time but definitely am enticed by charter. I mean I could just buy a 73 type. Any thoughts?

I am not sure where you are in your career, age, education, and experience level. However, not quite sure what the attraction is for the B737 type rating. Any airline that hires you will type you in the equipment so the need to buy a type rating does not really make a lot of sense. SWA used to require a B737 type but they dropped that requirement. A type rating with no time on the aircraft does not really help that much in my opinion. But if you have the spare cash and want to get a type, I guess you can pick just about any aircraft.
What are your long-term career goals? The answer to that question may help you navigate your next step(s).

My Long term goal would be a Major airline. A regional at this point in my career I could not financially or personally sustain. I could still have a 30 year career at a major if picked up. Yes SWA used to require the 737 type but is it still preferred? Honestly the attraction to Sun Country is the 737 type and a hopefully in the future a new contract with better pay and work rules. But financially I can be more stable part 135 after a hard Covid year and a half struggle. Aviation has just not been financially stable for me. I am professionally successful with 9000 hrs and 8 types but this industry has kicked my butt financially. And first year paybonce again I will be poor. Then after a few more YEARS maybe I'll get stable

Sun Country on FO pay is hardly much better (if at all) than any regional. Based on your experience and current financial status I would take the 135 opportunity and keep applying to the majors. There is going to be a lot of hiring in the next year onwards, hopefully. Attempt to live below your means so you can accept that first-year pay when you do get hired elsewhere. On the 737 Type issue, majority of the guys in my class at SWA did not have the 737 type rating. Just saying.
Best of luck.

SWA application just opened today. You have to apply on the SWA website and also complete the SWA pilot credentials. I also suggest when you have the money, have your resume and application reviewed professionally if you have not done so. There are so many little things that we are unaware of when completing applications. Simple things like spelling errors, dates, and gaps that are inconsistent, etc can affect your selection. Interview preparation in polishing your presentation and brand is recommended.
