David Clark X11 Headset
Does anyone have an opinion on this headset? Would it be just as good to get this, which is $300 less than the Bose or spend the $300 for the bose? I'm in the tail end of my flight instructing, and will be moving onto either 135 cargo or a regional. Thanks everyone for any input.

I was looking at the X11's for a while but I havent really heard anything good about them.. Three guys that I work with all got a refund after trying them for about 3 months. They are all using the Bose now...

I ran this same question a month ago with no replies. Oh well.
As for the X11, it appears to be a cosmetic improvement aimed at grabbing away some of the Bose X market. It does not warrant the extra $ over other Davis Clark ANR-type headsets. I am on a budget, and in my book neither headset is worth its price. The Bose X in particular seems to be more of a religion than a headset. Last time I flew a Cirrus the owner also loaned me his Bose X, to show me how great they are, but after an hour I was so uncomfortable I had to get my old headset out. My headset is a $400 Lightspeed ANR type, the 15XL. I put them on and flew 4 more hours with only minor discomfort.
The Lightspeeds are not as passive resistant as David Clarks or the Bose, but they have good ANR and cost half as much. The only flaw in the 15XL's is, if you fly skydivers and you open the door the ANR freaks out a little bit and makes a low frequency thump until the door is closed. I do not know why they do that but it is not a deal breaker and I am going to continue using them as long as they work.

I've always been of the opinion that the Bose is only worth it if you listen to music while flying. The stereo sound is wasted otherwise, so you're just paying more. I have not heard many good reports about the X11s. I'm using Flightcom Denali's right now and they are great. I've had them about 6 months and they don't tire me out or wear me down. Battery life is pretty good too.

I also have heard nothing good about the X11. I tried them on and for me they were uncomfortable and seemed poorly built (unlike DC's other headsets). Aviation consumer had an article a few issues back on it and didn't give it real good reviews...

I had the Bose X's and it was a great headset.. I used the X's while freight dogging it.. (Great with music). Very comfortable.. Battery life was far better than what was advertised.. Unfortunately I had to give them up due to impedance issues in the Falcon... Once I switched back the PNR's I was not able to wear my DC's more than 1.5 hours because my head hurt like hell. It took me a couple of weeks to adjust back to the clamp (PNR) style headsets..
I have been thinking about giving the X'11 a whirl.. Oh by the way, If you want to spring for the Bose they have a great payment plan..!!

The X11 are okay in the performance side. I didn't like how they did not have much clamping force. The practically felt loose on my head and my head is not small by any means. The headside was an improvement from the DC10-13 for sure though. Now i've got the Bose X and love them. I'm just getting into instructing and flying jumpers on the side and they are wonderful!!
