Default Piper Seminole Black Nose

Up at UND, all of our Piper Seminole aircraft have their noses painted black... just the tip of the nose. Why is this? Literally nobody up here as any idea, including lead flight instructors and chief flight instructors. It's definitely not in the POH, I've searched through that a few times. It seems like nobody has ever given it any thought. Any of you guys have any ideas?

You mean Dana S. hasn't come up with some ridiculously complex explanation? He must be slipping. (Sorry, I don't know the answer.)

I've never thought about it either. Our Seminole has a black dot on the nose too. Kinda makes it look like Snoopy.

Try this next time you're out flying.

Also might block reflection from the sun so you can see better outside.

In case of lost procedures, it can be used for dead reckoning.

It is the "you are here" dot.

Default One of these things is not like the other.

If you really want to know, call Piper. But from my five minute analysis I'd say it has something to do with keeping a small design change small. As for the color choice, who knows. Why are some prop tips on my organizations BE20's painted white and why are some painted yellow?

Many Seneca IIs (and maybe others, too, I don't know) have a black plastic cover similar in size and shape to the black painted surface in the pics above.

I've always wonder why myself.

Protection from abrasive damage? Many airplanes have a clear boot on the nose for this purpose.
