737 Recirc Fans
I have seen the Recirc Fans configured in various combinations jumpseating. I have seen the Flight Deck Off, Cabin On - Flight Deck On, Cabin Off. Both Off on external air. Have not seen them both Off airborne. They both can be MELed unless in very very hot ambient.
I notice when I Non-Rev the Cabin is VERY drafty - many folks grabbing sweaters etc - me included.
What techniques do you 737 drivers use in managing the Recirc Fans? Does running them Off do any harm? More fuel use? Will Off make the Cabin less drafty?

I am an FNC. Self trained the best I could. I asked for "Techniques" - of which I was NOT taught on OE. Certainly there have to be some SWA/Alaska guys than can fill me in.
Just because I ask the question does not mean I don't know the answer - well some of the answer. I am an Agnostic - you never know.

I won't throw stones Skipper. Here you go.
The recirculation fan system reduces the air conditioning system pack load and the engine bleed air demand. Air from the passenger cabin and electrical equipment bay is drawn to the forward cargo bay where it is filtered and recirculated to the mix manifold. The fans are driven by AC motors. Each recirculation fan operates only if the respective RECIRC FAN Switch is selected to AUTO. In flight, the left recirculation fan operates if both packs are operating unless either PACK switch is in HIGH. The right recirculation fan operates in flight if both packs are operating unless both PACK switches are in HIGH. On the ground, the left recirculation fan operates unless both PACK switches are in HIGH and the right recirculation fan operates even if both PACK switches are in HIGH.
By reducing the pack load and engine bleed demand, this allows the system to function more efficiently. I believe however, that in order to obtain max cooling on the ground, the RECIRC fans should be placed off.
