MFD to Get? GMX200 or EX600
Hi there!.. my company is getting a C90B on behalf of a customer, thing is the bird comes with the KMD850... we want to change that MFD for a newer one, we can't make a choice, because we will like to collect a bit of experience on the displays...anyway things are coming to the Avidyne side due to the map-radar overlay feature, but still want to hear about the Garmin... i understand both have VP radar display capability... looks that they are very simillar in what they offer... does anyone have a hint about any of the displays?
would be great to hear any input about it...
Thank you very much!

My company does sales/service/avionics, and I've worked with all the above mentioned displays(well the EX500, not the 600).
I can tell you that we have yet to install the EX600, they have all been GMX200's. We have had very little problems with the Garmins. Our history with the Avidyne equipped aircraft(pipers) is we had lots of support issues when something went wrong etc..
If you want to put charts onto the Display, Garmin is by far easiest to set up, but after it's set-up they both are somewhat equal to maintain.
Now that the EX600 has a panning feature, I do like that. Overall, I'm a Garmin guy, but the new Avidyne display is pretty good looking. I'm not sure about it's reliability yet as it hasn't been put in anything I've flown. I can tell you we've installed many GMX200's as replacements for the KMD850's in the TBM's and Meridians out there, and mulitple other aircraft types with older displays or that didn't have any at all. I would like to see the EX600 in action to get a better evaluation and comparison, but it seems like it's the same box as the 500, just with a panning feature(which has always been a problem for most everyone, even the big displays)

I like the GMX200. We had an MX20 and the GMX200 is much better. I can't compare it to the EX600. However I can say that Garmin has great customer service and the GMX has soooo much gee wiz factor compared to the avionics on the King Air. IMHO the GMX200 isn't missing anything.

Funny you mention this, I was also recently in the process of deciding on a garmin or avidyne MFD for a King Air 200. I prefer the Avidyne, but it turns out the airplane already had the garmin gdl-69 data reciever installed, so we're going with the gmx. Not that it's a bad system.
Whatever you chose, make sure your current radar is compatible with it.
