Are these cockpit add-ons needed FAA approval? RosenVisors come to mind

I've heard that the low humidity in the cockpit can generate a static charge adequate to make a single sheet of newspaper stick right to the windshield.

Generally speaking, if it's something you "install" in the aircraft, the answer is yes. Best to ask an airworthiness inspector.

We have tinted visors in several of our C172s - believe it or not, they require an STC.
