I've used both units. Our 421 came with the 90B and it was replaced with two 530w's. They are definately the way to go for that level of avionics. The WAAS upgrade has really made flying GPS approaches nice and easy.

i have used both units. i actually like the kln better than the garmin because you dont have to activate the flight plan everytime you start the airplane for the next leg. hey if you like color then sure garmin. But hey lets face it they all do the same thing

I just got back into serious flying withing the last 6 months. To do so- joined a club. Well, actually call it re-joined. Had been out of flying for some 8 years- probably more. I had no idea how the whole GPS thing worked or fit into what I knew as IFR flying. Learning the 430 was a snap. And- they give you a cool little computer program trainer to download and train yourself- it is a very effective training tool. We have 2 club planes- one has a 430, and the other has a KLN94. Not sure what this says about the units themselves, perhaps more about the owners- but the 430 is ALWAYS up to date, the 94 has not been updated for a couple years. This seems to be a common theme I see: the Garmin owners are REAL serious about their equipment, the KLN stuff just occupies a slot in the panel.
